It is being reported that the PF regime has again deferred the implementation of the General Sales Tax from Value Added Tax because the systems are not ready.

And UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has reminded the PF that it is not necessarily because they are power hungry, bitter or because they are less patriotic as they normally accuse them.

Mr. Hichilema said UPND observations are made out of genuine love for the ordinary citizens and the nation.

“In the case at hand, one does not need to be a rocket scientist to understand that some things just need some bit of common sense and some consultation from all those willing to avail themselves to be at service in the field of economic and financial management”, he said.

Mr. Hichilema said the PF must learn to listen even from their own technocrats within Government that are now frustrated because of politicians’ insatiable appetite for wrong decisions that only suit politics.

He said it is therefore ironic that the entire PF government machinery can present such a huge economic proposal to the country in their budget, and later embark on a countrywide consultative process like they are currently doing and then make a sudden twist.

Mr. Hichilema said it is simple logic that you first consult then consider implementing based on the outcomes of the consultative processes.

“In medical profession, the PF regime is that medical practitioner who prescribes any drug available on the shelves to the patient before carrying out a thorough diagnosis. The result is what is currently happening to our ailing economy because it is forever being given wrong prescription resulting in a wrong prognosis”, Mr. Hichilema said.

He questioned how citizens and the entire business community can now take short and long term plans under such flip flop (Chipantepante) arrangement.

“How do our colleagues in the PF regime now balance the budget because some of the revenue collection in the 2019 budget are projections from collections of sales taxi? Like they say, ‘If It’s Not Broken, Do Not Mend it”, he added.

He advised the PF to stick to VAT, just broaden the tax base and reduce the VAT rate.

  1. Good advice badala, but should listen when people say you should hold a convention to allow people challenge you. How do you talk about removing a stick in your friends eye when you have log in your own eye

    • But him as opposition who is supposed to give checks and offer alternatives. This man is only critizing without a solution. It is easy to say i have an answer but when we press you for that answer you start insulting. So, do you have an answer HH ?

    • You two are very dull(Muzo & Abena), they guy has just given you advise…what more do you want ai? You are Hollow.

    • As long as i voted for PF i will condemn them when they do something stupid unlike some of us here busy pretend when things are not well, we should learn to accept change not just hate HH just because its HH, learn to use your brain and try to think for once. Things are bad and someone is giving advise at iyo ni ba HH. Don’t die dull use your brains twapapata.

  2. The problem with being a crook is that even when you speak sense people have difficulties listening to you. VJ was KK’s natural successor but he fell out because of the tag that he carried. Similarly no matter Hichilema tries to cleanse himself the fact still remains that he’s a ruthless capitalistic crook and a freemason. How did he find himself in Panama Papers?

    • KK was succeeded by no one from UNIP in govt. Chiluba succeeded KK in govt. As long as UNIP was in power, KK thought that no one was destined to take over from him.

  3. As long as you consider a tribe above quality then zambia will remain undeveloped even in ages to come.

  4. You cannot give advise to people who lack common sense(Stupid People) they always take it as an insult. In Tumbuka they “kauzganga ni fwiti chala fwiti ni tilinganenge” An advisor is not a witch, a witch is one who wants to be equal to you. So bravo HH.

  5. Finally LT have yielded from these UPND morons….? They started requesting this “statement from their Ayatollah “ since yesterday.

The fact is that Ayatollah is being considered as god- mighty .Am sure they are happy because his gospel voice is now on verbatim.

    • Mmmmmmm mr. Panyio i like your thinking not only you are dull i doubt it if you go to the toilet at your own will or maybe you are just forced….When you go to the toilet today try to think about what i have just said…and i know you will…and yes you will. I have like your post ok.

  6. Yes they should listen but they wont..pompus, vain and selfish lot they only listen to their urge to steal and to destroy. #koswe mu mpoto..

  7. and I quote “in medical profession the PF regime is that medical practitioner who prescribes any drug available on the shelves to the patient before carrying out a thorough diagnosis”.
loud and clear, the statement is too deep.. of course this may lead to poor prognosis. how do you make consultation after implementation.

  8. Love him or Hate him. HH is Financially and Economic literate and would take Zambia to a higher level. Even right now HH is an Asset to Zambia as an Adviser and Entrepreneur at an individual level. We said HH.

  9. “…..our economy is forever being given wrong prescription resulting in a wrong prognosis”, Mr. Hichilema said.
Iwe Trib.al Hacks, it’s the other way round, prescription follows prognosis. Thank God this guy is not my doctor, not even my leader!

  10. This is proof that HH is an opportunist working for outsiders who give him prescriptions based on their interests. He is not explaining why moving away from VAT is such a bad idea but merely scaremongering and showing off as per usual. How do you say “if it’s not broken, don’t mend it”, when the Zambian people are robbed daily on their natural resources because we do not have the capacity to add value on these resources? Tell the people how Zambia has benefited from this VAT system Mr HH? Even the Americans don’t use this system because it’s too complicated for them. Michael Gove a contender for the PM job in the UK pledged to replace the VAT system with a much simpler sales tax.

  11. Free advice which the koswes would not hid to because of their arrogance. Pf is its own worst enemy they don’t need any assistance in messing things up. They’re in destruction mode by 2021, they will be on life support. People had high hopes on them but they are proving to be useless with each passing day

  12. What I have learnt from those who know what tax is , VAT is only applicable to industrialized countries VAT means value added tax if we look at our nation Zambia you will find out that we don’t have industries where value addition is done, if there is no value addition what then is the meaning of VAT, it doesn’t make any sense however the nation needs taxes for it’s coffers.
VAT has cannot work where there is no value addition, what now is happening in the country where we have such an arnormaly is that the government continues to pay the companies for doing nothing the government keeps losing out as such crooks like the vendata would want to keep the mines so that he can get VAT from the government when he is not doing anything.

  13. A solution is given by HH, broaden tax base and VAT reduce rate. The problem the Government gave us for moving from VAT to Sales Tax – high VAT refunds (frauds and the actual refunds).
The proposed solution of reduced VAT exemptions (broaden tax base) would result in high production costs (cost of living) and reduced VAT rate into lower Government revenues (before you condemn, Government now is broke so any loss would not be a good thing).
So I think he (HH) should have put in some more thought into the advice and not ‘chipantepante’.
