Singer Afunika’s wife charged with sedition publication

Share

Elizabeth Mubanga, wife of Zambia’s singing sensation Frank Chirwa — popularly known as Afunika, has been arrested and charged with seditious publication with intent to cause fear and alarm.

Police say she is behind the audio that went viral on social media claiming that Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company in Copperbelt, is contaminated with chemicals.

Police Inspector General, Kakoma Kanganja discloses that Chirwa, who called on people not to drink water from this utility, was released on police bond and will be appearing in court.

Elsewhere, Kanganja also reveals that Jimmy Bwembya, 23 was arrested for circulating a video showing a murder that happened in another country while claiming it happened in Chingola.

He reveals that investigations pointed to Bwembya who was later picked from Solwezi.

Meanwhile, Kanganja adds that further investigations reveal Bwembya was also behind one of the recent deaths recorded in Chingola and was on the run when four other suspects were cornered.

He has since been charged with murder, attempted murder and rape.

  1. Nolle proseque. That is a private case between Mulonga Water fimofimo and that bittch. Why is she charged with a case caring death sentence?
That was that piece of shiit which also said that Nawakwi was selling human d!cks as sausage. That thing was not charged with “sedition”, and Nawakwi didn’t get any help from Kanganja.

  4. We warned people about spreading fake news. People think spreading sensitive false news about government is same as gossiping at your local salon. I hope this sends a message to everyone even those who blog here because we have the capability to track you down and commission legal proceedings against you. Very sad for this woman as she seemed very nice a few years ago when I spent some time with her on one of my weekends in kafue. Kz

Failed project indeed this sh*th0le called Zambia. So now they are arresting innocent people who are merely expressing their opinions as enshrined in the constitution instead of arresting the criminals who are terrorising people.

Any river in Zambia, particularly those on the Copperbelt, you don’t need to be a scientist to know that they are contaminated and are not safe for drinking. Why do councils treat water from the rivers with Chlorine if it was safe to drink? All she needs is to buy a few water testing kits to prove that the water is full of contaminants, chemicals, heavy metals, cysts and has unbalanced pH levels recommended for human consumption. No case here and ahe will end up suing the government for compensation and unlawful arrest. What a failed project this Zambia…

…What a failed project this Zambia country is under these incompetent numskulls! As for Byembwa, first you say he was arrested and then you conclude that he was on the run. Did he escape from custody? Or it is Chizungu, Sikuwa, English which is an issue here :(.

  7. That is PF for you …they are swift to arrest Bishops and innocent citizens meanwhile GBM and the fifthly rat Tayali are busy issuing silly statements. The President is cowering in State House and the Police have lamentably failed to connect anyone …stop tormenting innocent citizens you morons!!

  8. She’s being bullied for publicly expressing her opinion. All they have to do is provide information to prove her statements are false and have her issue a public apology.
These charges are all crap and worth of a public announcement.

  9. In countries were they have civilized leaders, people and civic organizations write articles about the quality of drinking water all the time.
In the US, very few people are drinking tap water. You either get a water filter or buy bottled water.
Her allegations should have been dispelled with scientific evidence
This case is beyond the jurisdiction of ZP, it’s a simple civil case if anything.
ZP has more serious work to do now.

Let vent out, we the people have the ability to decide who’s making sense here.
We can’t all be singing the same leadership praise here.

  13. Some minds are very shallow. How do you support someone who has nothing better to do than posting/circulating unverified news which is likely to bring social and political unrest in the country? No mulume wakwe wine Afunika nga mu supporta ninshi cipuba.

There are laws that are meant to regulate our conduct in society and this includes how/what we communicate on social platforms. Better to post nothing at all than post rubbish. She made her bed, let her lie in it.

In law; to every rule, there is an exception and to every exception there is a rule. The law also takes into account mitigating circumstances and practical context surrounding the case. The 3 elements must be present for the case to qualify for legal action.
