Share

Zambia will receive US$ 389 million from the United States Government through the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR), for the next annual funding cycle which starts in October this year.

This follows the Country Operational Plan (COP 2020) meeting convened by the United States Government through PEPFAR, which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa from the 24th to 28th February 2020.

Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya attended the meeting on behalf of Zambia.

The meeting reviewed key policies, strategies and activities to be undertaken towards the goal of achieving epidemic control of HIV.

Dr Chilufya says the meeting marked yet another Milestone in the Zambian Government’s strengthened collaboration with Cooperating Partners in enhancing provision of quality health care services as close to the family as possible.

“The US Government through PEPFAR is a strategic partner in Zambia’s National HIV response which has been instrumental in accelerating the nation’s progress towards attainment of epidemic control of HIV and AIDS by 2020”, Dr Chilufya said.

He said the new one year bilateral grant agreement with PEPFAR, to be signed after the United States Congressional approval of the COP 2020, will provide the framework for PEPFARS funding of activities in Zambia.

In addition to the US$389 Million, Dr. Chilufya said Zambia will receive additional funds specifically for the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision care programs that will be granted to Zambia for the exceptional performance in the two programs across the region.

“With the approval of COP2020 comes an opportunity and a platform for the United States and Zambia to engage at policy and strategic levels,” Dr. Chilufya says

Dr Chilufya said with this support to President Lungu’s administration, Zambian is poised to achieve epidemic control of HIV.

The Minister of Health paid gratitude to America for being a strategic ally of President Edgar Lungu’s health systems strengthening agenda, and cornerstone of Zambia s aspiration for epidemic control of HIV/AIDS.

  1. We thank our American partners. The opposition have been praying that our relations with America sour after the foote issue. Guess that is not that case.

  2. 1. We should be ashamed that despite so many natural resources, we depend on aid. We are like a man that has fertile land, but fails to produce food for himself and his family.
    2. The vulture are circling because they have seen a potential feast of money to plunder. I would just remind them that US aid cant be stolen without consequencies. Alll the money is tracked. Be assured of that
    3. Mr. Chilufya has been implicated in so many cases of misappropriating money. Such a shame that he continues to represent our country at such a forum. Is it any wonder that we are looked down upon by all other races? Our nations have leaders that thrive on corruption, incompetence, abuse of power, theft, and all manner of vice.
    What a shame

  4. Ensure that these funds are accounted for not tukomfwe like last time ati ARVs stolen at Medical Stores

  5. Zambia always on the receiving end, when are you going to be independent? To think that UK was in a bad situation pre 1948 and the kwacha was stronge. Fast forward Zambia is perpetually holding a begging bowl.

  6. The US has been supporting Zambia for years even when the economy has been doing well and at no point have the Lazy ministers ever thought..wow let’s try to stand on our on two feet. The cost of corruption is more than enough to pay for this.

  7. This is NOT something to sing and smile home about! Why is aid from the US always channeled to HIV/AIDS projects and NOT infrastructure development? People must question that. HIV/AIDS is no longer a factor!!! Please, let us question such matters.

  8. Let’s hope this money won’t be used to build ownerless mansions, sleek cars, welensky fire trucks etc. Zambia needs an independent overseer of such funds as corruption has skyrocketed.

  9. The USA does not give hard cash to baboons in a maize field. No chance for Pathetic F.OOLS to have their hands on this one.

  10. Stupid people every time receiving and you are happy why can’t you be self reliant for how long you gona keep on begging the bible says the hand that gives is the hand that receives and that money will end up in your pockets you are even proud you can’t be ashamed you got all the mineral resources in Zambia which US does not have but because of corruption you have reduced your selves to beggars for how long you going to beg.

  11. Yesterday it was the railway line from cooper belt to beira by US today it’s HIV support which point are you trying to make you told foot that you can scratch and manage in your poverty but why USA now after you chased foot somebody is panicking this is how Zimbabwe started going down.
