High Commission in Malaysia says NO Politically Exposed Persons involved in Illegal Zambian Wood confiscated

Share

The Zambian High Commission in Malaysia has refuted claims in some sections of social media alleging that the Zambian wood worth over RM9Mil (about USD 2.15 million) confiscated by the Malaysian government belongs to politically exposed persons.

According to a statement issued by Zambian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the article published by the Star (a Malaysian daily newspaper) did not provide any details regarding the identity of the exporter(s) but only indicated that the consignment was from Zambia and destined for Viet Nam.

The Mission has since advised the media to avoid speculating and publishing unsubstantiated information from unofficial sources.

The High Commission of Zambia in Malaysia said the matter will be followed up by the relevant Zambian authorities with their Malaysian counterparts in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on International Trade in endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora as it relates to specimens deemed to have been exported in violation of the Convention.

The Star (a Malaysian daily newspaper) yestrday, March 4, 2020 carried an article titled “Illegal Zambian Wood worth over RM9Mil Confiscated.’’

The article stated that the consignment of Guibourtia wood bound for VietNam and worth over RM 9 million (about USD 2.15 million) was seized by the Malaysian Customs authorities when they conducted an inspection of the shipping container at Tanjung Pelepas port.

The article further quotes the Johor Customs Director, Datuk Mohammad Hamidan Maryani as stating that “no arrests were made and that the case would be treated as a seizure.’’

  1. Of course it isn’t anybody in government but ordinary citizens because we are so powerful we can even get the containers cleared without issues……Be serious ambassador it’s not your job to defend these issues let the proper authorities comment obviously the consignment has paper work let’s wait for details like who authorized it’s clearance and in whose name or company it belongs to

  2. Why am I not surprised? I’m sure this statement was issued without consultation with the Malaysian customs authorities. It is only logical to think that such a large consignment cannot be moved out of the country under ZRA’s nose. A politically connected person had to be involved in the shipment. Thanks to the Malaysian authorities for doing ZRA’s job on our behalf. This such an embarrassment.

  4. And the Patriotic Front came to the national scene saying they were “allergic to corruption”. These illegal Mukula logs would make good crucifixion material for PF .

  5. Could you confirm then that the video clip we have all seen of Malaysian officials is staged? Thanks for your time @Thorn-in-the…

  6. Nomba what will upnd use to campaign in their elections if it has been clarified that no pf official is implicated? Because upnd has no manifesto apart from criticising the ruling party and crying like pregnant hyenas. Btw can some one ask chellah tukuta to contact me. We are worried as a party about his well being. He needs counsel and we in pf want to ensure his success is protected because it’s under us he made it in life. Kz

  7. So the Zambian high commission can report their own bosses. The annoying thing is that PF think we are all fools.

  8. I imagine the High Commissioner to Malaysia is still Walubita (Wally) Imakando. He has been in diplomatic service for years following his brief stint at a Ministry of Finance agency in Lusaka. As an economics undergraduate in the early 80s he was suspended for a year or so for an exam malpractice offence …

  9. every time I see such reports of katundu coming in or going out the country without trace, I remember that conversation of abena chinsali. GUYS ARE WE SAYING THIS TIMBER LEFT THE COUNTRY MINUS ZRA DETECTION?

  10. The headline is misleading ….it is insinuating PEPs have been eliminated from all suspicions of dealings in this mukula deal. But when u read the article they are not exactly cleared

  11. We would rather have the Malaysian authorities tell us who signed off the paperwork. As for the Zambian High Commission keep pushing for your for your monies that the Zambian Govt still owes you.

  12. Kingsley Chanda said that no illegal export of Timber is going on so how can he explain this development? And then why is the Ambassador rushing to exonerate the politicians when the report is not giving details of who is involved?? Wait for investigations and then give a comprehensive statement….

  13. Uwakwisano – Who will investigate? PF police you expect them to investigate and report their bosses? kikikikikikiki forget.

  14. There’s history of Mukula consignments being escorted by State House convoys in the dead of the night.
So if State House vehicles can be involved in escorting illegal consignments of Mukula is it possible someone from the streets of Lusaka went to State House, commandeered those vehicles without knowledge of Politically Connected P.F G00N’Z??
Even Ch!mpy0ngo got very hot under his dirty Corrupt collar & threatened the P.F whistle blowers, it there on camera, evidence for after 2021.
THIS MUKULA BELONGS TO PRINCESS CHAKOLWA CHAWAMA I.

  15. this trend of zambian stuff with mysterious owners, just watched the malaysia video on twitter, even this confiscated wood has no owner. the malaysian officials made arrests for the other contraband like whiskies but for the zambian wood no arrests.

  16. That’s thieves for you …first thing its to deny not be angry at what is happening to our country. Who are you to ascertain whether its a PEP…why dont you give us the copy of the container manifest. I hope EIA get to this before the corrupt DEC and PF.

  17. A poacher’s first instinct when the Game Warden finds a carcass in the park is not getting caught…these thieves are destroying all evidence as I type no statement from the govt as its a thorny issue involving people in high places.

  18. If somebody can get 5 years in prison for Stealing 7 goats, How many years should these mukula thugs get? Somebody at customs & police is living well. No wonder they don’t function! It’s sad

  19. This is what Zambia has come to, under this thug we have pretending to be a president. Of course no politician will will be openly listed as the illegal exporter of this consignment. But does that matter? What matters is the fact that we have a corrupt government, being run by a criminal gangster who doesn’t care what’s happening to the country. Zambia’s image is being tarnished abroad, because of these criminals we have running the country. If you’re a PF supporter, and you think this is the way things should be run in the country, then something is seriously wrong with you. You need your head examined. This is unacceptable. All these criminals will need to be arrested next year once they lose the election, starting with the chief criminal himself, gangster Lungu. They’ll need to…

  20. This is what happens when you handpick cadres to these missions …they are not civil servants, a seasoned diplomat would never comment on such a case..a season diplomat would only confirm the news.

  21. Looking at the pictures of the pieces of mukula , me thinks they are from DRC.

In Zambia there is no mukula that wide left.
Those wide mukula are found in a rain forest setting.

  22. The world speaks out about PF corruption. Yesterday it was America, Nkandu Luo barred travelling to America, the other day United Kingdom, then Germany, The Netherlands and now Malaysia exposing corrupt PF regime. PF can gag, harass and intimidate Zambians unlike other players in this globe village. Zambians will know all corruption activities of PF regime today, tomorrow or before the regime dies.

  23. No positive news from this government every time corruption violence etc we are tired we need development in the country..

  24. The Patriot: Good points. I like a good argument without emotion. But one correction: to the PF there’s no embarrassment here. It’s u who thinks Zambia has been embarrassed.
