By Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba President, MMD

19th August 2020

On behalf of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, we cherish the memories of our 2nd MMD President, His Excellency Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, SC.

Today, memories of the most progressive President of Zambia fill our minds as we remember and celebrate the life of one of Zambia’s best sons and leaders.

He demonstrated that Zambians under a responsible government can respect the law.

He demonstrated that with fiscal discipline you can get the nation out of debt and unleash the nation to unfettered prosperity.

He demonstrated that with a relentless fight against corruption, a nation can restore its international respect and dignity.

He demonstrated that leadership is about service and not personal deals and profit.
It is no wonder that President Mwanawasa has gone down in history as the man whose name graces more infrastructure than many other Presidents.

The message from the grave today is that, Corruption MUST be punished wherever it rears its head.

The Message from the grave today is that, the respect of the rule of law by both leaders and citizens is the source of all human development.

The late Levy Mwanawasa will be remembered as the President who brought back economic and social stability to Zambia.

The MMD prides itself with the fact that under the leadership of President Mwanawasa, the Zambian economy grew and was rated amongst ten fastest growing economies in the world.

The late President has proved that with a steady, incorruptible and focused leadership, Zambia can rise and become the example of success on the Continent.

Give Zambia a good President and you shall see how progressive Zambians can be.

Continue to Rest In God’s Peace, Mr President.

  5. Why cant Edgar Lungu emulate Presidents like Mwananawasa who were very serious about corruption. Under Mwanawasa you would never have some one like Bowman Lusambo as Minister or Kaizer Zulu as Presidential advisor. For me after Kauda he was the best President Zambia has ever had, he just made one mistake and that was appointing Rupiah as President, because RB ended up a very corrupt man.

  7. You people keeping yapping about 7 etc. I think u talking of another Zambia. The Zambia i know ,only has 2 & half or 3 former presidents. And they are: Kenneth Kaunda,LP Mwanawasa & the halfs are Nevers Mumba himself & Guy Scott. Nevers is the Third best ever, while Guy Scot meant well for the nation but the PF cadres spoiled his show,as such his CV varnished. Cos of the very cadres that himself & MC Sata developed. The rest nima rapishi chabe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. So next time we talk of former Zambian presidents, talk to me abt these 2 fulltime presidents & the two halfs. And we end there untill further notice. But watch out fpr chi Hichilema, his tract record so far shows that he ll come out, the best President that Zambia ever had(ofcourse KK is in his own league-getting independence from colonizers is no child’s play. His second borne-cracking record is the fight against corruption. These two put together makes KK special & an all-time winner. Yes he punished us but he never sold us(everything was still Zambian owned) ,only Tazara was Chinese owned- untill Chiluba came & put us on auction.

  9. So says a man who was found guilty for stealing money at the embassy in Canada when he was an ambassador. Now he wants to get into state house so he can steal big. Once a thief always a thief. Some stole from widows & now you have seen. Others stole from privatization & you still want to see more. Wait & see

  10. Continue resting in peace Mwanawasa. You did your great part for mother Zambia. There can only be one leader at a time. It is true what they say: “You do not know what you have till you lose it”. Indeed we did not know what we had in Mwanawasa till we lost him. Some leaders whom I won’t mention, we won’t lose them. Infact it will be the best riddance. Indeed Mwanawasa proved to us that he was one of Zambia’s best leaders

  11. I disagree with those singing praise for Levy. He was as corrupt too but was cleverly hiding the corruption under the carpet. Remember it was under Levy that ZCCM was finally sold for a song. It was Levy who partnered with those lawyers to fix Chiluba. Those lawyers minted Gold from the Chiluba cases and even started and airline . It was Levy’s tribalism that killed Zamtel. He appointed his inept and underqualified relatives into ZAMTEL. Levy appointed his inept tribesment at Ministry of Energy leading to fuel shortages in the country…..

  12. Remembering a great man!! He ran his race till the very end. Indeed like @ Kaizar Zulu said, we honour and salute every past President for serving our great nation. Continue to rest in perfect peace.

  13. What I know is every president who ruled Zambia has something good to be remembered for, he KK and his friends brought freedom from colonialists.
F T J Chiluba brought democracy and Christian nation and gave houses to Zambians and opened up businesses to Zambians and shopping malls .
I don’t know exactly what LP Mwanawasa brought, may be he helped write off the credits from creditors.
RB Banda had his successes in what he did however he was a good man to respect.
M C Sata rebased the kwacha to its reasonable levels and brought massive infrastructure in the country Sata was a great leader who had grate ideas but didn’t live long enough .
EL. Lungu is doing even more to be remembered for as he has continued with infrastructure developments.
    However as for me I…

  14. @Levy Junction, you are a liar. Zamtel was doing well under Levy. It even started expanding and favourably competing with Airtel and MTN although Sata used his proxies in the trade union to undermine management. After the death of President Mwanawasa, RB and Dora Siliya corruptly sold to Lap Green. Dora Siliya was given $1 million which she went to bank in South Africa. She chartered a plane and flew from Mfuwe to bank the money. Sata forcefully grabbed Zamtel from Lap Green but the PF regime failed to defend the case and instead agreed to pay more than 300 million. You f..o..ol, don’t lie.

  15. @Levy Junction: You are a pathetic and ignorant l.i.ar. KCM was originally sold by Chiluba for $25 million to Anglo American Corporation. Get your facts correctly. Don’t spill ignorance on public platform. Mwanawasa just resold it and obtained more that $25 million from the IMF and World Bank who paid the additional money. Under Mwanawasa KCM was paying tax which the PF regime failed to collect because of corruption. KCM is being currently being run down and Lungu is doing nothing to stop the rot because of incompetence and corruption.athan Chanda has become a multimillionaire through plundering KCM.
