Zambia opens Embassy in Rabat, Morocco

Share

Zambia has opened its Embassy in Rabat in a move that signals a willingness to further boost ties with Morocco at all levels.

The Embassy was opened during a visit to Rabat by Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji who told the press, on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony that the Embassy will serve as a platform to expand bilateral ties.

He recalled the opening of a Moroccan Embassy in Lusaka and the multiple exchange of visits at the ministerial level between the two countries.

“The strong ties were given impetus by the State Visit to Zambia in February, 2017, by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, during which fruitful discussions were held,” he added.

During the Monarch’s visit to Zambia, the two countries signed 19 cooperation agreements covering diplomacy, economy, science, technology, culture, investment, industrial cooperation, agriculture, education, mining, air services, energy, insurance, finance, and tourism.

Morocco has also offered scholarships for Zambian students and agreed to share its expertise in fields it is competitive at.

At the particular pandemic context, Morocco’s foreign minister Nasser Bourita highlighted Morocco’s solidarity-based approach to ties with African sisterly nations.

He recalled that Zambia was among 22 African states that received anti-Covid aid including vital medicine and protective gear at a time of global scarcity.

  1. It does not help. We must be thinking of paying what we borrowed from Kaloba first. What if our creditors grab that embassy

  3. It’s important for Government to keep its citizens informed about policy changes. For a long time Zambia has supported the Western Sahara Government that is at loggerheads with Morocco. What’s the current policy, and what becomes of our stance that Western Sahara is an independent State? This policy came out of a resolution by the OAU. It’s not good to surprise us with the opening of an Embassy in Rabat, besides we don’t need such a large number of foreign missions. Apart from just taking part in the AFCON, Morocco never considered itself an African country. That’s why they at one time applied to join the European Union, the application was just rejected because they geographically belong to the Dark Continent. What’s the cost of our solidarity with them?

  4. Seriously we need to vet rid of PF like yesterday, should we be reminding them that having bankrupted the country we expect them to put in place austerity measures now?

  5. Ayatollah, to fully remind you, Morocco of the northern African states has always considered itself African. More so than the others. Morocco and the flow by wind state Egypt kikikiki have always had that African presence and thought process. They too realize their heritage and know they overbearing presence of Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. They are not dumb they know the future is Africa and not the ever volatile Middle East. Not everything is always politics. kikikiki.

    • Iwe Nzelu is your name actually Aleuqul? Cos you really want to spin Morocco’s well known position around to suit the current Arabic confusion. Morocco left the AU. Morocco has colonized blacks in Western Sahara and the AU told them to give these people their independence. Morocco refused but recently they bribed Lungu among others to stop relations with Polisario and that’s how they came back to the AU. Lungu was bribed to reopen the mission in Rabat

  6. @Nzelu, you may wish to know that Morocco left the OAU in 1984. Morocco rejoined the AU in 2017. If they considered themselves as Africans why did they apply for EU membership? They were Africans only because they were playing in the AFCON and nothing else

  7. Your Excellency I am here! My hand is up! Can you see me?? Please make me ambassador. I am writing a good book about you and your wife! It will come out as soon as you appoint me

  8. Smacks like the populist approach of just coming up with districts anywhere without any budgetary support resulting into a complete drain on the treasury. Not a single Zambian life will be improved out of this, if there is a contrary argument, tabulate the benefits

  9. Smart decision! Zambia should expand its connections with other countries, do business with them. So that in future when we face a crisis they can support our country.

  11. We have seen how the USA, China, and other countries helped Zambia in the Covid-19 pandemic. Only happened because of Lungu’s good relation with them, this is what he has earned from so many years.

  12. The two countries signed 19 cooperation agreements and uneducated people ask what President do by visiting other countries.

  13. That guy there looks like Dr Kawimbe. Is he the new ambassador? Any-hoo! My interest is not so much how many scholarships we are receiving but how many we are offering. When are we going to stop begging and start GIVING kansi?
