Don’t depend on salaries -Kapata

Share

The government has called on professionals in various sectors of the economy to form cooperatives for job and wealth creation.

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Jean Kapata says professionals must take advantage of the great opportunity of creating their own wealth instead of depending on monthly salaries.

ZANIS reports that Mrs Kapata said this when she officially launched the Zambia Nurses and Midwives Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited (ZNMMS), at the Government Complex.

Mrs. Kapata wishes to see other professions such as Teachers, Secretaries, Journalists and others come up with such programmes if they are to see improvement not only in their sectors but, even at individual level.

“When such organisations are set up, it is easier to identify the problems and propose solutions to the powers that be if help has to be effectively and systematically given’, She explained.

The Minister mentioned that the Government is very much interested in seeing professionals come up with productive initiatives which are backed by the continued emphasis on professionals forming cooperatives by the President since 2015 whenever he is addressing the nation in the National Assembly.

Speaking at the same event, the Chairperson for ZNMMCZ, Abel Tonga, noted that the aim of the cooperative is to mobilize members from among nurses and midwives in Zambia and diaspora, so as to advance an agenda in agriculture, aquaculture, education and real estate.

He mentioned other sectors such as mining, small and medium scale business entrepreneurship among others to create a platform and robust vehicle necessary for achieving better livelihoods, income generation and maintaining the dignity of nurses and midwives.

” The cooperative has received tremendous response and support from nurses and midwives at various levels, across all provinces and a number of districts in Zambia with 67 paid up members,” Mr Tonga said.

He stressed that with the resources available, the Cooperative intends to prepare a Seven (7) hectares of land in Luanshya to grow maize and soya beans during the 2020/2021 farming season.

Mr. Tonga mentioned that ZNMMCS limited provides a unique opportunity for nurses to come together and engage in more profitable entrepreneurial activities for better profit and dividends.

  1. She became rich through mukula logs and today she can say don’t depend on salaries.

Tell Edgar Lungu just to revive the economy and bring down the exchange rate to K10 per dollar for people to be able to import capital goods at affordably.

Your cooperatives won’t anything if the remains poorly managed.

PF has failed lamentably and just leave it to my Bally to fix it.

    PF must go!

  2. You also madam get out of office because you have lamentably failed. Shamelessly you think you should still continue to get a salary while others should form co-ops. What’s your job then????

    • I have never heard such an advice coming from a government official anywhere in the world. Encouraging workers to focus on what doesn’t give them their salary?

  3. This clueless minister is so ignorant and doesn’t deserve her cabinet portfolio. If people are working they should expect to get a decent pay which they can depend or rely on. What’s wrong with that?
You want people to be stealing as well so that they don’t rely on their salaries.
True, some staff at the Minitry of Land get back handers so they don’t rely on their salaries as you say. There is no business you can do to supplement salaries. People don’t have money do they cant buy whatever you want yo sell. Do you really have brains “Mr Kapata?” You are just a PF cadre without vision. Next time think with your brain not using pussey.

  4. Not much substance what she is saying. Professionals work full time for the government. Fully committed to the work. That’s why civil servants are supposed to be compensated very good salary. If they were paid well they could buy shares or form companies run by outsiders.

  5. From the surface, it sounds like a good thing. But, what about the productivity of these professionals where they are currently employed. A business means you are in touch with what is happening on the ground either by physically being there or making phone calls. Working people must be adequately paid so that they concentrate on their jobs. There are so many unemployed professionals, graduates and others, concentrate on empowering those with businesses.

  6. This is why nothing works properly in Zambia and every one in GRZ is busy running a kantemba or solicting for corruption , the ministers are mostly busy running their private companies and also want civil servants to do the same…..part time commitment to GRZ work.

    This is shocking.

Why dosent lungu and his ministers instead call on the millions of unemployed to form co-ops and other businesses ????

  7. Jean cikkalla chose!!!
Why these d!cks start insulting civil servants? Give workers some respect. You want a nurse to be selling chikanda after her night shift.

  8. A stable economy with well intentioned structure must ensur an employee can subsist on their salary for the length of time between paychecks unless they are reckless. What this Minister is implying is that they have failed to sustain the population and are setting them out to pasture. In the meantime you should retain them as captains of a faltering ship they have failed to steer. Good luck Zedians.

  9. Unfortunately for many civil servants and other workers they have to depend on their salaries because they don’t access to gold and mukula deals. For others in your Ministry they’ve resorted to sell land illegally to keep up with the good life. So your advice can’t work for many workers. PF cadres have more money than those leading a honest life

  10. This type of advise should only come from those that have quit their jobs and are doing their own business ventures , not someone on the still on the payroll of tax payers.

  11. I have always said this and will say it again. Let us do away from a culture of thinking being employed by others is success. Start your own thing. Some laugh at my humble beginnings as a lab technician.but I have worked for my country in top positions and now own companies which employ many people. Meanwhile the so called educated clowns in diaspora are scrubbing toilets and calling me a useless lab assistant. See your life

  12. Lab assistant, you did not work in top positions on merits, the agony is being haunted and politically exposed and eventually face the law for dehumanising Zambians. Jean Kapata is not only ugly but sold the forests and Mikula trees. Cobwebs need cleaning.

  13. I know a Zambian police woman who does exactly what Jean Kapata is saying, The police woman has her own bridal boutique which she financed from corruption money at Emersdale and Lusaka Central police stations. Before corona virus pandemic she was travelling to China every 2-3 months for her personal business and still got paid by the Zambian government every single month whether she was on police duty or in china shopping for new things for her boutique, she is stinking rich!

  14. KZ you haven’t had a humble life. You have nothing worthwhile to preach about being humble.

You are a crook and a thief just like your ex boss. You will always be known as a tyrant. Once HH is in power we shall see if you have the balls to create/make mischief.

What you need is a week in solitary confinement, I advise you watch shawshank redemption

  15. Scouser you will get heart attack with all that anger brewing in you. I am sure you must have even being foaming at the mouth with anger as you typed that. You are a maniac. Grow up

  16. I have no anger issues. My concern is people like you, lungu and his minions who have looted and messed up the economy.

You portray as a hard working loyal individual but infect you are just a crook. We all know what part you played in rigging the 2016 elections.

  17. Not all of us have access to Mukula deals like you madam. Us we only depend on an honest days work which leaves us with little time for anything else.

  18. Here is a government freely admitting that depending on a salary in today’s Zambia will get you nowhere. Essentially, the average 9 to 5 job, if you can get one, is paying a starvation wage. In other words, she is saying young people don’t go into the <b civil service, teaching, military, police etc unless you can have a side-hustle on top of the 8-10 hours you put at work.

  19. Black scouser numbers don’t lie. My companies speak for themselves. If I am so useless then why weren’t you picked for the role. Jealousy will kill you. It is that arrogance you have which makes your party upnd lose. You look down on people who you expect to vote for you. Continue cleaning toilets there abroad while we run our country. Why don’t you enter government wherever you are ? You know why? Because the owners of those countries don’t consider you human. You imbecile

  20. Kaizer, do you know that toilets need to be cleaned? if toilets need to be cleaned then that means work for someone else. You’re laughing at jobs that your clueless president cannot create. The PF legacy is bu cadre. Your PF thinks youth empowerment fund is the answer. Create jobs and let these youths work. I have never heard any good ideas from your president, lyonse ena ni speech, that brain if full of water.
