Police on the Copperbelt province say they will work hand in hand with the councils to increase vigilance around graveyards following the case of exhuming a body at Kantolomba gravesite in Masaiti.

Copperbelt province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi confirmed that police in Kafulafuta received a report of trespass at the gravesite which occurred on February 19, 2021 at unknown time at Kantolomba Cemetery Miengwe Re-Settlement Scheme in Masaiti District.

Mr. Chushi explained that Elvis Shamulanga aged 54 of Banhill Farm, reported that unknown people exhumed the late cousin’s remains, Harrison Mwileli, who was buried on June 25, 2020.

Mr. Chushi said on Saturday February 20, 2021 around 08:15 hours, Willy Chimwanga was going home and used a bush path through the grave when he noticed that Mwileli’s body was exhumed by unknown people.

“He quickly alerted the deceased’s relative, Elvis accompanied them to the Police Station. When Police visited the scene, they discovered that, the body was exhumed and coffin pieces were thrown around the grave,” he said.

Mr. Chushi added that the body was removed from the coffin and thrown back into the open grave.

He said police and relatives managed to gather and bury the remains.

He has since warned that police and the local authority will work together to increase vigilance around the grave yards in order to arrest any would be trespassers.

  1. This Police Force has failed to patrol the living, it’s work is only to harass HH’s in-laws and the UPND! Now to think they can patrol graveyards is the biggest joke of the year! I wouldn’t mind though to know who these people are, maybe they can exhume two stinking corpses from the people Embassy park & rebury them in the middle of Chimbokaila!

  2. This is beyond comprehension. To think that people in their right frame of mind can exhume bodies is just beyond belief!!! You can only wonder what they are looking for from the dead.

  3. I don’t think Police will undertake this task, they are busy with the harassing’s of opposition members being an election year. If in doubt, ask the people of Shibuyunji

  4. How far has the Police reform asked by Edgar gone. I am sure not even a millimeter movement has been attained, looking at the very unnecessarily raids in Shibuyunji, making public confidence even go further down

  5. In normal countries grave yards are fenced off & there are people employed to mentain, clean & guard 24/7. Police don’t follow up on any crime in Zed unless they can get money out of it.

  6. Abject poverty leads people to do the unthinkable….just look at the picture… . The thieves sold the coffin or needed it for a relative or what? Manje boma si invela nsoni? I do not care who leads the country, I just want a decent life.

  7. It is a sign of a civilization in decline. In this case the Zed civilization. While the rest of the world is marching well into the 21st Century they are trotting towards the 7th Century. Backwards. Nothing much else to add.

  8. Miengwe is still sparsely populated. In these settlements graveyards are revered. So such occurrences are considered as an abomination. This matter must be reported to Chief Nkambo, he and his sultans have the wisdom to deal with such a matter. Extraordinary things happen in these communities. Chris, the founder of Nsobe Camp used to have strange experiences until he got charms. He later became a nyela. Chris used to apprehend chaps who used to steal fish from his ponds on his own where Police failed. It’s only Chief Nkambo who can establish the motive behind this act. That information is with the locals but they can’t give it to the Police. When you live and mingle with these people you’ll understand that they’re not just ordinary villagers. There’s another way of life
