A Media Educator and Social Media Specialist at the University of Zambia has expressed concern with the continued production and circulation of pornographic material which he says has a potential to corrupt the morals of citizens.
Father Francis Chishala notes that the production and circulation of pornographic material that has caught the attention of social media is a matter of concern that should be curtailed as underage children are having access to adult material.
Fr Chishala told ZANIS in an interview that there is a need to urgently address the matter as high profile individuals have been at the centre of the illegal activity.
“They are the ones who should instill good morals among young people but they are exposing children to obscene material.” he said.
Fr Chishala noted that the behaviour of some high profile individual is compromising the country’s status as a Christian nation.
“As Christians, we are supposed to have a strong base so that we do not pollute society with obscene materials,” he said.
He lamented that it is sad that despite negative criticism and threats from authorities, people have continued to display their nudity for all to see on social media.
The Jesuit noted that there is a moral decay in the country saying the Government should quickly address the situation.
“We cannot continue to see elderly people disgrace themselves in such a manner.” He said.
The country has seen increased pornographic content on social media content which is produced by local people.

The people that recently learned how to use the Internet are the biggest culprits. Government should set up classes for Ministers, Permanent secretaries etc to be taught how to use the Internet things that their children can not tell them. Mabumba’s career has been destroyed because he did not know that once you share content online you no longer own it and have no control of what will happen to it. Once you share something online you cannot delete it. Iris Kaingu’s grandchildren will still that find video active.
I don’t understand why the Minister of Religious affairs allows it’s free access in zambia online. It starts from there. Such videos are available from sites all over the world and ZICTA can easily block all these sites. This access is what is breeding such behavior and the number of divorce cases in zambia
It’s mostly demons from those who shun national prayers in the upnd. They are bringing curses on our holy nation. Also upnd diasporans are known to share such disgusting content from there abroad where it is normal thus corrupting minds of our people

He fell short of just mentioning that the PF leaders are the culprits! We have not seen that from the opposition leaders but PF members and in in PF WhatsApp groups. That is where those videos and pictures are circulating more. Having said that, it is really important to prevent such content from reaching the young people. While ZICTA can block such content, they cannot block amateur videos from circulating amongst individuals. The only thing they can do is identify the source and whoever has shared the content but then they have to engage several stakeholders.
