A consortium of United Party for National Development (UPND) youths from the country’s ten provinces resolved that any manoeuvre by the Patriotic Front (PF) government to remove their leader Hakainde Hichilema from the ballot will be met with serious consequences.
The consortium, which comprises of UPND provincial youth chairpersons from Luapula, Northern, Central, Copperbelt, Lusaka, Western, North Western and Eastern provinces told journalists in Lusaka yesterday morning that plans to arrest Mr Hichilema by the PF would be met with full force.
Lyson Nyirenda, who’s Eastern Province Youth Chairperson accused the PF-led Government, told journalists that the UPND was aware of manoeuvres to try and implicate Mr Hichilema so that he doesn’t successfully file in his nominations papers next month.
He warned that there would be no elections if Mr Hichilema is deliberately not allowed to appear on the ballot, adding that whoever touches Mr Hichilema touches every Zambian.
“We people in the East are very unfortunate because we have the President, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services and the infrastructure Development Minister who all hail from the east yet we are very impoverished with poor road network.
We’ve had enough hate from PF ” he charged.
In echoing Mr Nyirenda, UPND National Youth Chairperson, Gilbert Liswaniso says youths in UPND are more than ready to bite the bullet, adding that the party’s youths had resolved to stand by President Hichilema and ensure that he is ushered into state house courtesy of the Zambian people.
Lusaka Province UPND Youth Chairperson, Anderson Banda, says the PF will democratically because Zambians have suffered enough.
He said that UPND has been closely monitoring the manoeuvres and schemes of the PF to implicate Mr Hichilema and prevent him from appearing on the 2021 ballot.
In his submissions, Luapula UPND Youth Chairperson, Nelson Kalembwe warned that arresting HH on flimsy grounds would lead to wide spread chaos in the country.
He also called on the PF to build more more prisons if they wanted to proceed with their plans to bar him from appearing on the 2021 Presidential ballot.
Milner Mwanakampwe, who is the Central UPND Youth Chairperson, charged that the ECZ’s biased handling of the elections and disregard for the Electoral processes has the potential to bleed anarchy.
“Not handling the electoral process properly has the potential to bleed anarchy.
We are also giving the Police IG 24 hours to release those who are unjustly held in police cells.
We are aware that the continued holding of the four officials is aimed at accusing HH so that he is barred from contesting the forthcoming polls.
This follows statements that from PF leaders and officials that a Tonga will never rule while some say HH will never rule.
We wish to call on the PF leadership that going for HH is not the noblest of things for him to do if he wants the country to be safe,” he said.
Northwestern Province Youth Chairperson, Bruce Kanema, Western Province, Jack Mwanga, Muchinga Youth Chairperson, Brown Simbeye and Paul Mulenga of Northern Province were among the youth leaders who attended the briefing.
Didn’t Edgar Chagwa Lungu promise the world that Zambia will hold free and fair elections? I highly doubt that.

That is the problem number one in UPND, they think that UPND is Zambia and Zambia is UPND how dare you say if you touch HH you touch all Zambians. Your HH has been losing for as long as he has contested elections and he is more t likely to lose this year’s elections than ever before.
It’s so surprising to hear this talking about hh being arrested and not allowed to be on the ballot. Is there something we don’t know about hh’s dealings that land him into prison and for him not to added on the ballot list, are you telling us that he is eligible to stand or maybe he don’t have a grade 12 certificate.
Why these UPND people are so concerned about this? Who would stop HH from being on ballot? If they think PF would do that, then they must understand one thing. HH is not that important for PF to go to such an extent. Don’t stress your tiny brains. Just go home and chill.

This is called preparing grounds for inevitable. If one reads between the lines, it is clear that UPND has started preparing ground to put the blame of HH’s crimes on PF. He is bound to land in serious legal trouble very soon and UPND is preparing to make emotional appeal to people of the country portraying that PF has deliberately taken action against him. The problem is that the unpopular ECL will not handover Power even if he loses the Elections. ECL is committed to remain in Power by Hook or Crook. Now he is trying to remove HH’s name from the Ballot Paper by any means. He has signed the Cyber Security Bill into law to help him in his Election Rigging Efforts. All these measures point to a violent, rigged and disputed 2021 Elections. PF is confusing ECL’s Third Term Eligibility and HH’s Eligibility. ECL’s Eligibility problem is a Constitutional issue. It is Article 106(3) of the Constitution which is barring ECL from seeking a Third Term. ECL is trying to counter his Constitutional Problem by incriminating HH so that he is removed from the Ballot Paper. Article 52 of the Republican Constitution gives any Citizen a Right to Petition any Candidate seeking an elective Post. HH’s Nomination cannot be challenged at Concourt on the Basis of Article 106(3) becoz he has never held Office as President whereas ECL has. ECL simply needs Concourt ‘s endorsement over the Third Term issue. Concourt should deal with this issue in an Objective and Professionally manner and in terms of the Republican Constitution. We…

This is becoming very tense. Arresting, detaining ,poisoning HH, barring HH from contesting 2021 Elections is a very dangerous move. People are Angry and Hungry. Arresting HH is a time Bomb. ECL needs descalate the situation lest People spontaneously rise against this repression. ECL shouldn’t take Zambians for granted and rig these Elections with impunity. We need a smooth and peaceful transfer of Power in August 2021 just as we saw in Tanzania recently. The Tanzanian Political leadership was guided by Democracy, Good Governance and Constitutionalism.
