President Lungu Slams Critics at the Party Manifesto Launch

Share

PRESIDENT Edgar Chagwa Lungu has described his critics and those of government as demagogues, who for political purposes sway ordinary people’s minds using illogical arguments.

Delivering his speech during the PF manifesto launch, President Lungu noted that ‘a particular sworn critic’, ‘a prophet doom’ has continued to argue based on the premise of a wrong conclusion as the PF has transformed the country through infrastructure development as promised.

“We have invested heavily in infrastructure development which has seen the transformation of our country through roads, bridges, schools, universities, hospitals, among others,” President Lungu said.

“We have invested in building hydro-power stations which has seen the reduction in the deficit of electricity. Somebody the other day argued that there is no infrastructure development to talk about because the country is heavily indebted through over borrowing. What this prophet of doom said is referred to as a fallacy of unacceptable premises.”

President went on to explain that, government has indeed used borrowed money in some instances but for good reason which can be pointed at.

“Yes, some of the money we used to build infrastructure was borrowed, but didn’t we build infrastructure? We did. Haven’t we transformed the country? We have. This is exactly what demagogues do – for political purposes they sway ordinary people’s minds, using illogical arguments,” he said.

President Lungu further wondered how people would still not give credit to government for reducing power deficit but instead pick unreasonable arguments.

“When I said we have reduced the power deficit, another critic argued that it is rainfall that has resolved our problem. And I say yes, of course the rainfall has helped because hydro means water. But can water generate electricity on its own? You have to build a power station to generate electricity. And that is what we have done,” said President Lungu

  1. You’ve devalued the Kwacha by 52% ,swollen official debt by over 100% and only executed 5% of your 2011 and 2016 party manifesto.

  3. Lungu has accepted rain-fed “foreign aid” to bridge power deficits. No thought of solar, wind or geothermal investments in power sector.

  4. @ENKA. Give credit where it is due. Do you expect the country to move from using hydro-power to wind or geothermal power overnight? Zambians need to be realistic. Government has to attract private investors into these other forms of power and convince them that there are benefits for them there. Feasibility studies have to be done to assess the viability of investment in these other forms of power. There are public institutions like UNZA that have explored the possibility of engaging a South African private investors to partner with them to help in generating geothermal power for purpose of raising money for the institution and liquidating the institution’s debt. We are also aware of private sector investment that is already being made in solar energy. Solar farms in areas like Luapula…

  6. Lungu is surrounded by”yes” men, people like that KZ guy, who ONLY say YES to anything and everything, and don’t see anymore that this entire speech is one big lie. I bet Lungu himself believes everything he said, because there’s never anyone disagreeing with him. Wake up Lungu, it is YOU who is killing the country!

  8. PF is in Power so they should point “sonta” to their achievements: No money in People’s pockets, very few jobs, inflation is now 23% p.a from single digit, exchange rate now 22 from 5, cost of living is up by 200%, corruption up by 100%, Governance down by 80% etc. Overall performance of the ECL Govt out of 10 is 3. It will be a mistake for Zambians to give ECL and PF another 5years of corruption, misery, failure and torture. Zambians should vote wisely on August 12 to have a new beginning with HH and UPND. PF has failed and will do worse should they steal the Elections and retain Power. The writing is on the wall.

  10. Thank you Mr President, indeed you transformed your pockets. Mr President, who had paid your presidential nomination fees in 2015 when you couldn’t afford the nomination fee? How come after 7 years you have become father Christmas when you could hardly afford a small fee. Now you have become so reach giving out money like a drunk sailor when your government is broke and failing to pay all it’s worker’s but you can manage to empower others in an election year. Stop, being corrupt Sir, we can all see it no matter how you try to sugar coat it. We know it RB did it.

  11. Mediocre manifestos of poverty. No one is talking about launching a satellite into space, we’ll still continue to rely on KK’s Mwembeshi Earth Satellite. To remove Road Tax can’t be classified as an ambitious development agenda. It’s an appeasement of poverty by poverty striken minds

  13. How long Hichilema’s dull followers will refuse to accept the tremendous development that exists in Zambia? By doing this, they are making fool of themselves and not the real Zambians.

  15. HH hired a media team to manipulate Zambians by circulating fake, made-up stories, videos, etc. We won’t let him take away the good deeds of our great leader Mr. Edgar Lungu. We must throw HH out of the August 12 elections.

  19. We must not forget that many countries’ government came forward to help Zambia through funding during the Covid-19 Pandemic only because of their good relationship with President Lungu. And, we believe that the President will pay back the help with interest.

  20. Those so-called manipulators can never manipulate the people of this country because Hichilema is trying hard to damage the image of PF through spreading lies and fake videos but failed miserably as always.
