Bishop Imakando’s’s call for change riles President Lungu

Share

President Edgar Lungu is said to be very upset with Bishop Joe Imakando after the Bread of Life Oversear General called for change in next week’s election.

During his last Sunday Service sermon titled “A month of starting a fresh,” Bishop Imakando appeared to be taking a scathing attack at the PF leadership while urging Zambians to use the August elections to change the direction of the nation.

Sources at State House have revealed that President Lungu is upset with the sermon and ordered Former Religious Affairs and Guidance Minister Godfriah Sumaili who is a Pastor at Bread of Life to express displeasure over the summon.

“The boss (President Lungu) believes the Bishop was politicking from the pulpit when he preached that message which he finds unacceptable. He has asked Rev. Sumaili who was present in Church to speak to Bishop Imakando before State House takes unspecified action,” the source said.

He added,” The President believes Bishop Imakando’s message was ill timed and meant to campaign for the opposition UPND. Rev. Sumaili was in Church including Matero PF candidate Miles Sampa and so it appears that preaching was targeted at the PF especially that those two officials were present.”

The source said State House will soon unleash a number of clergymen who will discredit Bishop Imakando’s message if he does not apology to President Lungu.

In a very unusual message, Bishop Imakando who runs the biggest Pentecostal church in Zambia by size said something is very wrong somewhere hence the need to change.

“I have interacted with people from all walks of life and I have heard them complain, there are complaining that they are no medicines in hospitals and clinics,” Bishop Imakando said in part.

“Some are complaining that their businesses have been affected because of the depreciation of the Kwacha, some are complaining that the cost of living has gone up. Some are complaining that their businesses have collapsed,” he said.

He continued, “Others are complaining about violence and others are complaining about the mountain of debt.”

“Something is wrong somewhere. There is need for change, we cannot go on like this. It is tome to change what is not working, it is time to change direction.”

And in his sermon notes released after the service, Bishop Imakando said the month of August is the eighth months of the year 2021, the year of the God Factor
Eight which is is linked to new beginnings.

“It’s a prophetic month that will usher in new beginnings, it’s amazing and strange that it’s started on a Sunday, and we are holding our elections in the same month. We are starting afresh in our spiritual life, relationships, job, marriage, ministry, business and every area of our lives,” he said.

“As a church and country, we are entering a season of starting afresh and we need to get ready. There is a shift that is coming, a shift that will bring a new season,” he declared.

He said the month of August provides an opportunity to start afresh adding that the month of August is a game changer.

“As a citizen, go and vote, your vote is your weapon. If you don’t vote, that maybe the very vote that will make a difference. It’s about the destiny of Zambia,” he said.

  1. Mr Lungu is happy to bribe chiefs, paramount chiefs, corrupt religious leaders, etc to talk on his behalf. But when a free-thinking Zambians speak, he gets angry – be strong sir, there is one more week to go ….

  2. More upnd propaganda. The president has not issued any statements in relation to this nobody called imakando. Stop spreading gossip and lies. Imakando is an insignificant little man. Let him continue robbing the poor through tithes. Us we are serving the poor not taking away from them

  3. Does the whole of Matero worship at BOL?? Does the whole of Lusaka worship at the BOL?? It’s his opinion and democratic right to choose who to support. But for me, like many other Zambians, know who to vote for. I will not experiment with my children’s future by putting it into the hands of people ready to auction our country to foreigners. Change is not the ultimate solution for this country, we have to scrutinise those promising change. Beware and vote wisely.

  4. The role of the church is to speak TRUTH , and truth does not choose who to please , it’s a double edged sword that will irritate one and liberate another. So well spoken Sir ,you are speaking for the people.

  5. Imakando has money, Lungu could not afford him…..kikiki. What a beautiful sermon it was. Amen. Sometimes you don’t have to prepare for a sermon like this, it just flows like freestyle, especially if you are always reading scripture and taking time to listen.

  6. He is entitled to his opinion. Im sure the president would have been so happy if this bishop endorsed him just like some of the chiefs. The president needs to work harder to convince the Bishop otherwise. It’s not all about yes men.

  7. Why are you people one sided ?? It’s not long ago whe one Catholic priest preached about hate and voting for the one who love people heartedly and not pretenders. Alot of people condemned the priest and was made to apologise. What is the difference between bishop Imakando and father Lupupa?

    10

  8. You shall know them by their fruit. God appointed Edgar Lungu according to Romans 13. So the good pastors words will not stand but fall. God will search out the truth and expose it. As for any suffering Zambians may experience, God is not deaf that it has not reached his ears to address it, it doesn’t need to come from people’s mouths to the pulpit. Also Mrs Godfrida Sumaili’s rise to Minister of Religion is a source of envy and jealousy by some pastors that think she has outshined them in importance and national influence

    11
    37
  9. For a pastor to come out that way like a upnd is unacceptable bcoz in church there are members who belong to other partieshow will they respect him. No country in this world ever provides 100percent for it’s citizens be it america etc. Anyway ALEBWELELAPO, mr imakando SORRY YY

  10. ECL is now trying to argue with the servant of God. When God says yes, no one regardless of status can say no. This is as bad as saying he is right and God is wrong.

    21
    2
  11. The biggest problem in Zambia is actually these so called men of God who have constantly fooled the masses that leadership comes from God and he alone gives leaders to the country. The people equally now believe the men who have served as president were God. No wonder they keep endorsing and people following the endorsed, this of course irks those who have not been endorsed. Of course when Imakando speaks in that manner especially with the influence he has on the gullible, it is worrying for President Lungu. A pity that the gullible followers have given up their capacity to think and decide independently for themselves but depend on these crooked men of God.

  12. Whatever is said by man does not count but only what He the Creator says counts and comes to pass.
If God has declared that the current president will still be or another one will through it shall be so.
Lesa ni Lesa. God is God.

  13. One of the first tasks of the next government is to dismantle the entanglement of church and state by permanently relegating the religious ministry to a desk at state house or better still legislate something else that is non-partisan. We cannot have Christians fashioned for someone or the other and have a sane religious playing field. Vilekeni ivo. Well done Imakando. Kansi unanzelu mudala iwe.

    24
    2
  14. When even friends talk generally on issues affecting daily living and you take it personally then you’re a culprit contributing to the failures! What is Lungu taking the clergy for when they have to guide the flock by being more like Jesus! Truth keeps them free from manipulation and theirs is to better the soul of the country through the citizenry! Lungu can seethe with rage to get stroke if those speaking truth are not favoring him!

    12

  15. THERE IS NO NEED TO GET UPSET WITH WHAT BISHOP JOE IMAKANDO SAID HE WAS JUST EXPRESSING HIMSELF AS THINGS STAND IN HIS EYES. PRESIDENT HAD SURROUNDED HIMSELF WITH WRONG PEOPLE AND THESE ARE NO WHERE TO DEFEND THE HUMBLE LEADER, ITS ALL BY HIMSELF CAMPAIGNING HARD ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. IF ITS TIME TO LEAVE OFFICE AS PEOPLE ARE SHIFTING THEIR SUPPORT TO HH AND HIS UPND ALLIANCE THEN THAT IS THE PEOPLES’ WISH. THE TRUTH ON THE GROUND PEOPLE WANT CHANGE AND NO ONE CAN STOP THEM. PASTOR JOE IMAKANDO CAN NOT JUST WAKE UP AND START TALKING OF CHANGING THE DIRECTION OF THE NATION. SOMETHING HAS RIGHT IN OUR MIDISDT GONE WRONG OR FALLEN APART. GOD WAS THROUGH HIS PEOPLE AND HIS PEOPLE ARE DEMADING CHANGE OF REGIME.

    5

  16. Apologies for what? he was just preaching the truth did he mention some peoples names? or political parties no, now why apologizing. Peter said i preach christ without fear.

    18
    4
  17. And when they lose they start complaining and saying elections were rigged….Imakando is Lozi….what do you expect…and he’s one of the so called fake prosperity pastors…they chew people’s money in the name of offerings and tithes….and poor People are gullible and HH offered him a post in his Cabinet….take a close look at HH’s inner circle….check the names of all the people close to him and then you will understand why Imakando said that….anyway August 12th it’s game over for HH and his tribal cult followers…talk to me on August 17th when Lungu will be sworn in

    2
    8
  18. August 12th it will end in tears..don’t over-promise and too much overconfidence…UPND will cry in Lozi and Tonga…ingombe ilede…yabija makani chilombwana…UPND chindi chamana..time for Fred Mmembe to take number 2 spot….UPND will come 3rd or 4th in these elections

    2
    9
  19. It’s lowly thinking for Edgar to imagine that everyone will agree with him. Every citizen has a right to call for his removal. There are many of us who still believe that he isn’t eligible to be on the ballot and that the correct judgement is that development by Justice Munalula. ECL has messed up so much that he doesn’t deserve a 3rd term in office. The only reason we’ve opted to support him is that we think Hichilema will be worse and has nothing to offer. If we had an option we wouldn’t even give him a single vote. If HH wins this election and arrests him very few of us will sympathize with him. LET HIM GET IT STRAIGHT THAT WE’RE NOT HAPPY WITH HIS LEADERSHIP IN CASE HE’S CHEATED HIMSELF

  20. this man hes a joker, and a Bishop who’s after money.we wouldn’t be surprised if he start to making political tantrums

    1
    17
  21. Not the Catholic priest who preached against HH. Not even Imakando who preached against ECL has power to change God’s decision. Leader are anointed by God. Both men of God should be asking God to give us a good leader for this country, instead of sharing their biased opinions.

    3
    9
  22. THE TR000LL IS SAYING ITS PROPAGANDA DOESNT HE KNOW BESIDES THE BISHOP 80% OF THE _POPULUS IS CRYING FOR CHANGE
    S T U P I D MAN

    12
  23. Of course..the fooolish dictator is annoyed after all the bribes he has sent through Godfriah Sumaili she must be very rich by now…really laughable…he doesn’t want to be told the truth.

    15
  24. Why would ECL feel that way?
Should everything said in ZAMBIA always be checked with him?
What then does ECL want to do against the Bishop?
We are watching….the World is watching

    14
  25. To these rats , ………anybody who complains about high cost of living, pf cader violence and corruption is a UPND………

That means the whole country is UPND because lungu does not have enough money to bribe everyone, and only those getting free handouts from lungu are not complaining……..

    20

  26. For three months I have provided input on LT and other sites to get rid of PF and that dishonest incompetent Edgar China Lungu. I am non-partisan, I am not asking anybody to vote for whatever party – just to go and VOTE. I only want to get rid of this horrible incapable government. And now the message gets heard: only that stup!d UK based troll and imposter KZ is left supporting Lungu! Won’t be long now KZ, and the vote will help you out of your misery. Not for long though, because five minutes later they will put you in JAIL! Together with your former boss, who sacked you for treason and incompetence!

  27. The Bible tells a story about prophets who always said what the king wanted to hear. Apparently God had sent a lying spirit to them. But there was only ONE true prophet who told the king the truth. The king was angry and had him arrested. This is the case in Zambia today. There is a lying spirit in bishops, pastors, elders, men of go(l)d and so on. Some bishops are related to top government officials like the Special Branch. They fear for their relatives’ jobs, so they lie. At last Joseph Imakando has spoken the truth. The ‘king’ is wroth.

    13

  28. Ndoleshyafye, you cannot be blamed for herd mentality. You may have a case on some of your points, but reverend Sumaili is a disgrace. Not entirely her fault as she did not appoint herself to a post that is designed purely to deceive. PF, or indeed any Government should never have created this post. Sumaili demonstrates that she is a PF stalwart whereas her job should be to represent Zambians of all spiritual persuasion. Even you do not think that is what she is doing.

    9
    1
  29. As a true Christian/believer you should understand that change in this message means who ever leads the next 5 years we need to take a different direction and it is for those tasked with the responsibility to do some soul searching.

In Short it can be ECL it can be HH or even Sean Tembo

    13

  30. Oh yea and to top it up the choice is then in your hands to trust your vote and pray for your choice to work in the direct that you want this country to go in.

  31. AMEN MAN OF GOD , WELL SAID , AS AUGUST IN THE BIBLE IS;
The month of August is your month of deliverance, open doors, success and fruitfulness in all rounds of your life, in Jesus name. DAY 30: Anything that is making you single, shall be destroyed and your marital blessings shall be given to you in this month of August, in Jesus name

AT THE SAME TIME , THE NUMBER EIGHT (8) IN THE BIBLE IS :
What is the significance of the number 8 in the Bible?
Number 8 in Bible is a new beginning, it is a number of hope, new horizons and bright future. It is connected with Jesus and his resurrection, as he was resurrected on the 8th day after he was chosen to be the one who will be sacrificed for the sins of humanity.

SO YOU READY THE BIBLE AND KZ BE WISE

  32. This is against the Word of God in Romans 13. You shall know them by their fruit. Ms Sumaili’s appointment as Minister of Religion has many jealous and envious of her status and national prominence. The Bible tells us that only Satan is interested in the affairs of men when Satan entered the disciple Peter to speak against Jesus’ crucifixion. What more pastors at pulpits that are preoccupied with affairs of men like elections. Pray for your pastors that Satan does not use their pulpits for his work.

  33. This is against the Word of God in Romans 13. The Bible tells us in Mathew 16:23-27 that only Satan is interested in the affairs of men when Satan entered the disciple Peter on whom the Church of Jesus Christ was built to speak against Jesus’ crucifixion. What more mere pastors at pulpits that are preoccupied with affairs of men like elections. Pray for your pastors that Satan does not use their pulpits and voices for his work.

  34. This is against the Word of God in Romans 13. You shall know them by their fruit.

  35. It’s really good the rate at which upnd is trying to use social media to create a certain impression hiring children to trample on chitenje or waving the symbol all laughable

    10
  36. Bishop Joe Imakando is free to say his mind out, but it is not representative of all Zambians. Every Zambian registered to vote knows that change is not inevitable. The status quo is only requiring some tweaking.

    7
    8
  37. Himakando has made money out of tithes and he has bodyguards to open doors for him when dismebarking from his car and with ATMS BOOTHS AT HOUSE and church. Is he a man of God . It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter kingdom of God. Let us wait for 12q August, 2021 Imakando is not GOD is a preacher

    3
    4
  38. He said the truth and if it hurts you that is proof enough. Change is what this country needs. Edgar has had his time let others carry the mantle of leadership too. being a good leader is not about how long one leads but how well one leads in the time accorded.

  39. BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT BISHOP IMAKANDO’S SON CALLED *JONATHAN IMAKANDO* WORKS FOR HH AT AFLIFE FINANCIAL SERVICES AS ONE OF THE TOP BOSSES. HIS PROMOTION CAME STRANGE BUT IT’S BECAUSE OF THIS SKIMMING BY HH AND IMAKANDO BISHOP. SO, THIS IS STAGE MANAGED SERMON, FORGIVE THE MAN, HE IS PROTECTING HIS BREAD AND BUTTER.

    5
    8
  40. Prosperity theology has nothing to do with spiritual redemption. These men are not men of God. They are businessmen. The man knows were his bread buttered. In the photo he is in designer apparel,in posh surroundings.
He needs the patronage of a fellow businessman!
So let him be. His message is simplistic for the simple minded.

    5
    6
  41. The Bishop was wrong. I listened to that sermon. He was actually campaigning for the opposition. Preachers should just end on encouraging their congregants to go and cast their vote

    7
    9
  42. Business man masquerading as a man of God…wait till August 17th when Lungu gets sworn in….we will go after all these fake preachers stealing from the poor in the name of tithes and offerings

    3
    5
  43. Bishop Imakando is running out of Ideas, We know that his young brother has been UPND MP. But Imakando should have seen the downfall of his colleagues Who left the ministry and went into politics. Things are bad, No doubt but for you to say we need to change is politicking and people will start to discredit the Govt of the day especially his followers. As a ” man of God” he should try as much as possible to detach his church from politics people know that his church has been built by contributions from various sources for people that meant well for the preaching of the word of God. But when you start getting into politics it is not far fetched to think that there is influence from outside. Pastors must try as much as possible to be neutral because some of your members may not agree…

    9
    9
  44. Albert Einstein said, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I always support the government of the day. In this case, the PF but their strategy is not working any more. It worked in their first three years with Michael Sata. Mr. Lungu told us he had no vision for Zambia but we didn’t listen. His works have confirmed that. Just like in soccer, the coach substitutes the player he thinks is tired or today is not his day. It’s not that coach hates the player and so substitute him or retire him. We (coach and supporters feel that fresh legs may help us, even though we are not guaranteed that fresh legs will be better but that’s the risk we have to take. At this time anybody might be a better choice, let’s retire Mr. Lungu this…

    9
    3
    • Bismark, the man is already retired just by his failure to deliver, hence you see the dictatorial tendencies from him, really squeezing the opposition using the job insecure Police

  45. Miners being paid, civil servants debt swap, campaigning in full gear by the PF whilst stopping others, thanks Bishop Imakando for standing on the side of justice

  46. FEAR NOT THE OPPOSITION HAS WON
    GREETING TO ALL SUPPOTERS
AND COMMISERATIONS TO THE LOSING PF
    THANK YOU FOR NOTHING

    4
    3
  47. Pastor Imakando like the other pastor who said (chawama no ku chita rigg…) should apologise to the nation because not all his followers agree with him. Pastors should learn to tread very carefully between their christianity and politics. Nevers Mumba came out in the open and joined the political race, Mr Joe Imakando is free to do the same. To hide behind the pulpit and do something else other than that calling is corruption of the highest order.

    2
    3
  48. LUNGU HAS BEEN BEHAVING LIKE ZAMBIA IS HIS MOTHER’S FARM, SO HE HAS TO BE RETIRED ON NATIONAL INTEREST “NOW NOW”.
WE NEED TO MOVE FORWARD; RECONCILE AS A REAL CHRISTIAN NATION, LEFT OUR STANDARD OF LIVING AND NOT RELY ON LUNGU’S ELECTION HANDOUTS. WE NEED TO RESTORE DEMOCRATIC VALUES BY STOPPING LUNGU’S GENOCIDE, CORRUPTION/DECEIT/NEPOTISM. AND.
OTHERWISE WE WILL BE WORST THAN ZIMBABWE.

    5
    3
  49. This charlatan Imakando should pay back the money he has stolen from his poor congregants. This is chicanery of the worst kind, a thief trying to cheat his way out of trouble. Imakando is a thief and will always be one.

    2
    5
  50. Yes Government faces will change except the head, the president. ECL will decide to change some ministers. Yes this August 12 will be a new August. Yes I will vote anew for the very first time in August 12 2021. No one has ever voted before this day. For us real Christians everyday is a new day, so is every week, so is every Month so is every year. Change is constant but H² will not be president after 12th August 2021.
So if really Imakando said whatever in the sense of changing Government, he seem not to understand Zambians yet.

    2
    4
  51. It is absolutely not true that every bread of life church goer would vote in the direction imakando would seem to be suggesting if he really meant what the upndead are making it out to be.
Look at Miles, he should be surprised at this story.
Some journalists are schemy political vultures.
    Otherwise,
Social media is for all; while journalism is for trained communicators. But if you allow all and sundry to masquerade as journalists, your profession will perish and you will have yourselves to blame.”
    Besides
Umusuku ubi utukisha impanga. I don’t trust upndeads.

  52. Isn’t this the pastor I hear has Automated Teller Machines at his church premises in Lusaka? He wants to be the only one overlooking the effect of Covid-19 in congregants bank accounts.
He is definitely talking for himself selfishly.
I hope he wasn’t misquoted too.
Otherwise it’s not easy being opposition.

    2
    3
  53. “As a citizen, go and vote, your vote is your weapon. If you don’t vote, that maybe the very vote that will make a difference. It’s about the destiny of Zambia,” he said.

Excellent from the Bishop who is very patriotic about Zambia and who wants to see the NEW Zambia. Change is coming.

People are killing each other instead of preaching unit you preach division.
Which verse did he quote. You know preaching from seeing a problem to verse is not preaching uku kwebelapo.
If I were him with such audience with this prevailing situation I could have preached from:
Joel 3:19 “But Egypt (………) will become a wasteland and Edom (……. ) will become a wilderness, because they attacked the people of Judah (……..) and killed innocent people in their land.”

  57. My only interest is to see that Christian values don’t go away with the wind, and by the way where are Christians in Zambia why leave your brother and align yourselves even with heathens and you pretend that you love the Lord, there must be something attractive you are following which has blinded your spiritual man, the bible says : proverbs 17:23 a gift perverts justice .
Zambian Christians do you mean you don’t want God in the nation vote for Dr Nevers Mumba he is right man to be president , but because you love bribes you have gone away like Balaam.
Now your are cursing what is blessed and turned away from God for the world you have turned to idols to worship other gods you never worshiped.

  58. Take no blame against the man of God at all. Change is nevitable as at level we hav reached. Whether we may want it or nt it is massive wind of change. What the pastor said isnt even equivalend to what already is taking place in this country. Change is already decided not because someone is a bemba, lozi, mbunda, namwanga, nyika, tumbuka or whatever it because we are all zambians. Hence, the thirsty for a peaceful change

Even if the words were very true, why CONDEMN bishop Imakando? the president has openly gathered and enticed pastors and made them pronounce their support for pf publicly and in their reespective churches. in almost in every district they have been . They have also corrupted some chiefs to become pf cadres now instead of letting them r2main neutral. The most senior civil servants, the permanent secretaries who are supposed to lead by example of being non partsan are now now active in campaign for pf. But …….what a great sinful hypocrisy
