There is no law that compels political parties to reveal their source of funding-Nakacinda

Share

THE Patriotic Front (PF) party has described the harassment and continued summoning of its senior party members by the investigative wings as a scheme by the UPND to try and cripple the PF.

PF Chairperson for Information and Publicity Hon Raphael Nakacinda has said the issue of wanting to investigate the source of funding for the PF by intimidating and wanting to harass the former Secretary-General is unfortunate and undemocratic.

MCC Nakacinda was speaking at Chelstone Police Station where Former PF Secretary General Hon Davies Mwila was summoned earlier today in connection to an investigation pertaining to some vehicles used during the campaigns.

He said this is because there is no law that compels political parties to reveal their source of funding or declare were they got their properties.

“To investigate all logistics including transport, by intimidating and wanting to harass our former Secretary-General is unfortunate. President Hakainde Hichilema please can you chill and possibly you can be able to act properly, adhering to the rule of law, “ he said.

Hon Nakacinda said the government’s intention of wanting to destabilize the opposition was exposed in audio alleged to be that of Presidential Political Advisor Levy Ngoma and Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Joseph Akafumba.

Meanwhile, PF member Hon. Mr. Chishimba Kambwili said the former ruling party is not against the Police investigating anybody but would appreciate it if things are done the correct way.

Mr Kambwili said it is surprising that the Police would want to investigate campaign vehicles. He said political parties both in opposition and ruling receive donations including vehicles from well-wishers.

Mr Kambwili wondered if the Police will investigate every well-wisher who may have also donated a Vehicle to the UPND.

“This that they have started going as far as asking for campaign vehicles will haunt them one day and will destroy democracy. People will be scared of giving the opposition help and then the country will be left with one party in government enjoying those gifts and it will destroy democracy. Please, let’s follow proper corruption, ngabakupela gift Motoka ati corruption aweh,” he said.

Former Mines Minister Hon Richard Musukwa, Hon Raphael Nakacinda, Hon. Mr. Chishimba Kambwili, Antonio Mourinho Mwanza, Alick Tembo, Brian Mununka, and Patrick Samwimbila were at the Police Station to offer solidarity to Hon Mwila.

  1. If this law ever existed PF could have used when UPND was in opposition and knowing how ruthless the former ruling party was to the opposition, UPND could have become extinct. I have never been BMW’s fun since Anderson Kambela Mazoka’s demise because he changes like a shifting shadow. He was chipantepante whilst in opposition and didn’t expect him to be sticking to promises after forming the govt. This govt will surpass all former govts in oppressing the opposition. NIPANO TULI!!

  3. When every zambian knows the PF as a party of looters & thieves who defrauded the national treasure, law enforcement is in order to query them.

The peoples’ money should be recovered from these thieves.

  4. Govt funds were used to acquire those vehicles. That is why they must exculpate themsekves regarding source of funds for the vehicles. Why was Davis Mwila, by his own confession, afraid that they would go to jail if PF lost? Was govt the well wisher? If so it’s illegal.

PF’s problem is they have chancers like BUFFOON CK and this moron representing them, CK will never get you votes the more he speaks the more people turn away then there is this foul mouthed moron Naka-cinda who has come fresh from destroying MMD. Doesnt he know that we have a right to know some of the vehicles used what if they were GRZ and Govt owned companies like ZESCO, ZAMTEL etc …that is abuse of power.

  7. Please question them, both GBM and Kambwili once told us that they worked with PF and that PF were big thieves and Kambwili even called the PF Chaps as ba pompwe bamushibila insala. So why should Police not question them if there is reasonable suspicion

  8. @ #8 Tarino Orange, I would add an element of taxes paid on the ‘gifts’ for only government enjoys tax exemption on gifts to it and they are property of the state accounted for under the appropriate authority and marked for state use. In the USA the former president Trump cried foul when the Internal Revenue Authority (IRS) billed his ‘gift’ of paying school fees for his grand children!
