Government has commissioned a 1×3 classroom block at Siameja Community School in Zimba District of Southern Province at a cost of over K1.2 Million under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, area Member of Parliament, Emeldah Nkhata, said the project signifies government’s commitment to enhancing access to quality education.
“For a long time, the pupils of Siameja have endured difficult learning conditions, with many learning from a church building. This clearly showed how desperate the need for proper infrastructure was,” Ms Nkhata said.
She added that the newly constructed facility marks a turning point for the school and surrounding community.
“Today, we celebrate a chapter of dignity, improved learning conditions and renewed hope for a better future for our children. This structure is more than just a building; it is a symbol of progress and what the Constituency Development Fund can achieve when directed towards real community needs,” she said.
Ms Nkhata further disclosed that the classroom block has been equipped with 90 desks and a solar power system to enhance learning.
“The inclusion of solar power is especially significant as it will allow our pupils to extend their study hours as they prepare for examinations. We are hopeful that this will improve the pass rate at the school,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ms Nkhata reiterated that development is evident across the constituency through various CDF-funded projects.
“Development is no longer a promise; it is happening and we are able to see it,” she said.
Zimba District Commissioner, Robinson Mulamfu, pointed out that the commissioning of the school is an indication that the government is at work and practical with its promises.
Mr Mulamfu observed that the infrastructure will highly motivate the pupils at the school and in the area, thereby contributing positively to producing good quality of people in the society.
“This structure we have here today is going to motivate the pupils at this school and we are certain that we are going to produce candidates with good results” he said.
Mr Mulamfu also thanked the government for increased CDF allocation which is enabling the expansion of infrastructure development across the district.
And Zimba Town Council Chairperson, Loviness Chigora, said the project demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to improving service delivery at community level.
“This development is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment, through Zimba Town Council, to improving service delivery and uplifting the lives of our people,” she said.
Ms Chigora noted that the CDF has continued to transform communities through tangible projects.
“For a long time, learners here at Siameja have faced difficulties due to inadequate learning infrastructure. However, today marks a new chapter. This facility will provide a more conducive learning environment for our children and contribute to improved education outcomes,” she noted.
The local authority further assured the public of prudent utilisation of resources.
“As Zimba Town Council, we remain fully committed to ensuring that the resources allocated under CDF are used effectively, transparently and for the intended purpose,” Ms Chigora said.
She indicated that the commissioning of the classroom block is expected to ease congestion, improve the learning environment and contribute to better academic performance among pupils in the area.
Earlier, Choolwe Musulumba, a pupil, demonstrated to the gathering how the school has shaped her and continues to add value to her growing life.
“This school is shaping the lives of young people in the area while easing the challenges they have been facing in accessing quality education in a conducive environment,” she said.
