The Zambia Police Service in Northern Province has commended political parties in Kasama District for demonstrating tolerance and maturity during ongoing campaign activities.
Northern Province Commanding Officer, Simunji Mulonda, says the peaceful conduct observed among cadres of the United Party for National Development (UPND), the National Revolutionary Party United (NRPUP), and other parties reflects the spirit of democracy and respect for the rule of law.
Mr Mulonda has disclosed that cadres from UPND and NRPUP have been displaying posters of their respective presidential candidates side by side in the central business district without any incidents of conflict.
In a press statement issued by the Northern Division Commanding Officer and made available to the media, Mr Mulonda described the gesture as a commendable display of political coexistence.
Mr Mulonda noted that the harmony being witnessed also reflects the positive outcome of engagements held between the police and political stakeholders at Kasama Civic Centre, where parties pledged to promote peaceful campaigns and resolve differences through dialogue.
He urged political players across the province to emulate Kasama’s example by conducting issue-based campaigns that focus on policies and development agendas rather than violence, provocation, or hate speech.
Mr Mulonda said the Zambia Police Service remains committed to providing a secure environment for all political parties to freely exercise their constitutional rights, while ensuring that law and order are maintained throughout the province.
He further reminded supporters that political diversity should strengthen democracy and not divide communities, stressing that peace, unity, and respect for the law are essential to ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
