A 50-year-old man of Lusaka has been committed to the High Court for trial by Chisamba Resident Magistrate, Susan Magalashi, on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
On July 20, 2025, Paul Nkokeisha of Lusaka West allegedly caused the death of Bright Mweemba in Chibombo District, Central Province.
Nkokeisha was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number BAR 7585, along the Great North Road when he caused a crash due to dangerous driving.
The offense is contrary to Section 161(1) of Zambia’s Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002.
As the matter came up for mention, Magistrate Magalashi read and explained the charge to the accused.
She then committed him to the High Court for plea and subsequent proceedings, following instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Magistrate Magalashi said the case is tried in the High Court under summary procedure in accordance with Sections 254 and 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia, as read with Statutory Instrument (SI) Number 235 of 1965.
“The State Advocate, Malama Chisenga on behalf of the DPP, Pursuant to the powers vested in me by sections 254 and 82 of the criminal procedure Code Chapter 88 of the laws of Zambia as read with SI Number 235 of 1965, do hereby certify that this is a proper case for trial by the High court as a summary procedure case,” she said.
The presiding magistrate extended the police bond for the accused.
