Police investigate defilement case in Lundazi

Police in Lundazi are investigating a defilement case involving a 16-year-old girl of Mphamba Compound.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, which was reported at Zambia Police Service station in Lundazi on May 26, 2026 around 15:14 hours.

Mr Mweemba said the victim’s mother, Naomi Mphande, aged 53, reported the matter on behalf of her daughter.

He explained that the alleged incident occurred on May 24, 2026 around 23:00 hours at Mphamba Compound while the victim’s mother was admitted at Lundazi District Hospital.

According to Eastern Province Police Chief, the juvenile had gone to bed early after reportedly feeling unwell.

Mr Mweemba said the suspect, identified only as Zyambo, allegedly took advantage of the situation when the children were left alone at home.

He said the matter came to light after the victim’s mother was discharged from hospital and reported the case to police on May 26, 2026.

A police medical report form has since been issued to the victim.

Mr Mweemba said no arrest has been made as the suspect is currently on the run.

He added that police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect while investigations continue.
