Zambia Meteorology warns of cold wave

The Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) has issued a moderate warning of a cold wave forecast from today, 26 to tomorrow 27th June, 2026.

ZMD attributed the cold wave to a strong high-pressure system which is expected to drive increasingly windy and cool conditions over much of Zambia, from Friday 26 to Saturday 27 June 2026.

During the forecast period, most parts of the country are expected to experience lower temperatures, cloudy conditions over Eastern and Lusaka Provinces, and dusty conditions which may reduce visibility across open areas.

“Hazardous, gusty winds for boats, light structures and outdoor activity,” the read in part.

Regions expected to experience the cold wave include Western, Southern, Central, Lusaka and Eastern provinces.

The Department placed primary concern on Eastern and Lusaka provinces.

Meanwhile the ZMD has advised water transport users to suspend operations or exercise extreme caution on affected water bodies due to anticipated hazardous windy conditions.

The Department has further advised the public to keep warm and take extra precautions, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions.

On the part of the farming community, ZMD has urged farmers to protect sensitive crops and secure loose structures.

Adding the need to also safeguard farming equipment to minimize potential damage from strong winds.
