Zambia Police Service Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, says ten suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murder of United Party for National Development (UPND) supporter in Kaputa District by suspected opposition party cadres.
Mr Chilabi says the suspects are detained in police custody.
He identified the deceased as Humphrey Lwisha of Shadreck village who was killed in Pump house village of Kaputa District, Northern Province.
In a statement issued to the media, Mr Chilabi explained that the deceased who was in the company of his fellow supporters went to a drinking place where they met supporters from the opposition and a fight broke out.
He said during the fight, the deceased was stabbed in the head, and was rushed to Kaputa District hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The body of the deceased has been deposited to Kaputa District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” Mr Chilabi said.
He added that police reinforcements have been deployed in Kaputa to maintain peace and order.
The Police has since condemned the violence, calling on members of the public to be calm and cooperative to the police during investigations.
