United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance partners have reiterated President Hakainde Hichilema’s comprehensive leadership and remarkable development recorded in the last four years in Zambia.
The UPND Alliance partners have since reinforced the endorsement of Mr Hichilema as their preferred presidential candidate for the August 13, 2026 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a UPND campaign rally held at Kyawana secondary school grounds in Solwezi district today where leaders of allied political parties praised President Hichilema’s leadership and development record.
United National Independence Party (UNIP) president, Henry Miyoba, said President Hichilema had demonstrated a strong commitment to education by introducing free education and subsequently signing it into law.
Colonel Miyoba (retired) said the move had expanded access to education for many Zambian children.
He further said while development during the First Republic under late former President Kenneth Kaunda was largely based on resources available in individual provinces, President Hichilema has adopted an equitable approach by allocating development resources fairly across all provinces.
And Patriotic Front faction leader, Miles Sampa, commended President Hichilema for stabilising the economy and attracting significant investment into the mining sector.
Mr Sampa said electing a new leader could reverse the country’s current development trajectory.
Meanwhile, New Nation Party (NNP) president, Nevers Mumba, said President Hichilema has promoted national unity by bringing together political parties from across the country under a common development agenda.
The alliance partners have since pledged their continued support for Mr Hichilema and urged voters to re-elect him in the August 13 general elections.
There are a total 14 presidential candidates that successfully filed nominations for election in the August 2026 polls and are currently canvassing for votes around the country.
The presidential candidates include Kelvin Fube of Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP), Given Katuta of Movement for Economic Emancipation (MEE), Xavier Chungu of Liberal Democrat Party (LDP), Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND) and Harry Kalaba of Citizens First (CF).
Others are Howard Kunda of Zambia We Want Party (ZAWAPA), Fred M’membe of Socialist Party (SP), Brian Mundubile of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), Brian Mushimba of Organised People’s Party (OPP) and Ackim Njobvu of Democratic Union (DU).
The rest are Daniel Pule of Christian Democratic Party (CDP), Richwell Siamunene of New Focus Party (NFP) and Richard Silumbe of Leadership Movement (LM).
On August 13, 2026, over 8 million registered voters are expected to cast their votes in Presidential, National Assembly, Mayoral, Council Chairperson and Ward Councillor elections.
