Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSSC) has drilled 3 commercial boreholes in Chongwe Central Ward to increase water supply to households in the area.
Speaking during a District Epidemic Preparedness Review meeting held in Chongwe, LWSSC Area Water Superintendent, Patrick Mutambo stated that the boreholes are currently being tested, with one already joined to the district’s main water supply system.
Mr Mutambo noted that the ward is expected to have increased hours of water supply once the 3 boreholes are fully operational.
“Once the 3 boreholes start operating to their full capacity, households connected to our network will receive water for longer hours. The development is one of the interventions the company has put in place to address water challenges in the area,” Mr Mutambo said.
He implored households residing along Chalimbana area to connect their houses to the company’s water supply system as the company is now able to supply water to the area.
Mr Mutambo also stated that the company has continued making efforts to supply the best quality of water to residents in the district by conducting periodic water tests.
He however cited a number challenges affecting water supply in the district such reduced water levels in Chongwe River and low water yields at Ntanisha well fields during the hot season.
Mr Mutambo added that the company will continue implementing various interventions to address the challenges.
Meanwhile Chongwe District Administrative Officer, Evaristo Kayaya who chaired the meeting commended the company for drilling the 3 boreholes to improve water supply in Chongwe central ward.
Mr Kayaya urged the company and various stakeholders to continue prioritising the improvement of water supply and sanitation in the district.
