President Hakainde Hichilema has urged farmers to remain patient as the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) finalises preparations for purchasing maize during the current crop marketing season.
Speaking during a community engagement attended by thousands of residents in Mpika, the President said the FRA will begin buying maize once grain moisture levels reach the required standard to ensure quality stocks are procured for the national strategic reserve.
President Hichilema assured farmers that Government will ensure prompt payment for maize deliveries, stating that those who supply maize to the FRA will receive electronic payments within two to three days.
The President also announced that Government will expand support under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) to enable more farmers to access fertiliser and certified seed.
On infrastructure development, President Hichilema said Government will continue investing in key projects, including the upgrading of the Mpika–Chinsali Road, rehabilitation of feeder roads, completion of the Mpika Bus Station and construction of the Chipembi Bridge.
Meanwhile, the President appealed to the people of Mpika to vote for the UPND in the August 13 General Election, saying another term in office would enable his administration to continue implementing its development agenda.
He urged voters to compare the current environment with previous years, stating that the country is now peaceful and free from political violence and the use of teargas in markets and bus stations.
