The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has intensified voter education activities in Lupososhi District in Northern Province.
The exercise has reached to all 13 wards with the aim of promoting informed citizen participation in the August 13, 2026 general elections.
Lupososhi District Voter Education and Publicity Coordinator, Mirriam Mukosa, has disclosed that the campaign is deliberate to ensure that no ward is left behind in the sensitisation.
Ms Mukosa told the media in Lupososhi that the exercise, which commenced on June 1, 2026, has seen teams deployed to conduct door-to-door sensitizations, community meetings, school programs and radio outreach to maximize coverage across the district.
She explained that the voter education campaign is focusing on key areas such as voting process, polling day conduct, and the role of polling agents in an election.
She added that citizens were also being guided on the correct way to mark a ballot paper, common mistakes to avoid, and how to ensure that their vote counts.
Ms Mukosa further noted that conflict prevention is a major component of the program, with emphasis placed on peaceful participation and the role of the Early Warning System in curbing electoral violence.
“We are engaging communities on deferent topics, among them the voting process, and the rols of polling agents, we are engaging on inclusivity is being promoted by encouraging women, youth, and persons with disabilities to take part in the electoral process, thereby ensuring that all voices are represented,” she said.
The coordinator emphasized that the overall objective is to build an electorate that is knowledgeable, peaceful, and confident in the electoral process.
“In this whole process we aimed to have informed voter, as this will help reduce misinformation, increase voter turnout, and promote transparent and credible elections in Lupososhi District,” she disclosed.
Meanwhile, traditional leaders have welcomed the voter education exercise going on in communities.
Senior Chieftainess Chungu of the Bena Mukulu people has since pledged her support the Electoral Commission of Zambia in mobilizing residents to attend sensitization meetings.
“We are happy that our people are being engaged, it is important, you know elections happen once in a while and it is important that we remind each other of some things in whole process,” she observed.
The traditional has called on her subjects to embrace the exercise and promote peaceful participation in the election.
