The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has hailed the contribution of former Vice President Dr Guy Scott to the sport.
Scott, 82, died on Wednesday afternoon at his home in Lusaka.
Then Republican President Michael Sata delegated Scott as leader of the Zambian delegation to the 2012 AFCON final in Libreville won by the Chipolopolo immortalising his association with the game.
FAZ President Keith Mweemba says Dr Scott was a lifelong friend of sports.
“On behalf of the FAZ and the entire football fraternity, I wish to convey my condolences to the Scott family on the death of our former Republican Vice President Dr Guy Scott,” Mweemba said.
“From the football fraternity we have fond memories of Dr Scott who was leading the Zambian delegation in Libreville at the nation’s greatest triumph alongside our founding fathers Dr Kenneth Kaunda and Rupiah Banda.”
In a statement, Mweemba said Dr Scott’s place among the nation’s heroes is assured having been one of the leading figures in the political life of the country in the post One Party State era.
