National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has pledged to improve the welfare of civil servants by providing decent accommodation for teachers, increasing housing allowances and eliminating cadreism if elected into office.
Speaking during campaign rallies in Luangwa and Rufunsa, Mundubile said teachers, particularly those serving in rural areas, deserve decent housing to enable them to work in a conducive environment.
He said an NRPUP government would prioritise the construction of teachers’ houses as part of efforts to improve working conditions and enhance the quality of education.
“Our government will ensure that teachers have decent accommodation. The current housing allowance that you are receiving cannot even help rent a house anywhere,” Mundubile said.
He also promised to review housing allowances for all civil servants, arguing that the current benefits no longer reflect the rising cost of living.
“We shall also revise housing allowances for you,” he said.
Mundubile further pledged to eliminate political cadreism, saying his administration would not allow political cadres to interfere in the operations of public institutions or intimidate citizens.
“In our government, there will be no cadreism in markets, bus stations and also in the civil service. We will promote professionalism,” he told supporters.
He said public institutions would be managed professionally, allowing civil servants to carry out their duties without political interference.
Mundubile has continued campaigning across the country, presenting the NRPUP manifesto ahead of the August 13 General Election, in which he is contesting the presidency.
