Share

Police in Mwinilunga district have arrested three Food Reserve Agency (FRA) officials in connection with the disappearance of over 1,000 by 50 kilogrammes bags of maize.

The missing 1,061 bags of maize are valued at K58.3 million.

This came to light yesterday after Northwestern province marketing coordinator, Mwansa Chamatete took stock of the bags of maize kept in the FRA depot in Mwinilunga.

Mr. Chamatete reported the matter to Mwinilunga District Commissioner, Webster Samakesa and other district administration officials.

And Mr. Samakesa disclosed that police in the district have already arrested three people in connection with the missing maize.

He said the trio was arrested after Mwinilunga District Cooperative Union officials reported the suspected missing maize to the police.

He said he would allow the law to take its course over the matter.

Among the arrested officials is Warehouse manager in Mwinilunga, Kenny Chivweta.

  1. Graft pa zed! why? One time we don’t have enough maize and some fimo fimo import GM maize from SA and the next time Maize is missing. Pa zed pali drama

  2. They say ati “u bomba mwi bala alya mwi bala.” You can thank our friends from the Northern provinces for the saying.

  3. #4, Vinthu Vina, you probably have not heard of one Madolf who swindled every Jim and Jack in America and Europe money totalling billions of dollars. There is no need for your inferiority complex. It happens everywhere.

  4. But why? No wonder the price of mealie meal keeps going up! its because of such people. Next, the headline will read… shortage of mealie meal in fimofimo province! what nonsense!

  5. Mr. Chamatete should be locked as well because he was not doing his job as required. He could have been checking his inventory weekly to avoid this embarrassments 🙁

  6. Ok. I will keep my ear to the ground on this matter to see how things will evolve for ZK 58. 3 million is a lot of money to just disapear monga mpepo.

  7. These three culprits must have their hands chopped off and sent to jail without bail..

such selfishness will never cease if people are given bailable sentences..

  8. This is a well known phenomenon. Bags of fertiliser disappear in a similar manner but sometimes even with the knowledge of apamwamba through loans which even up to now some ex-ministers have not settled. Its a free world we have so people just get rich just like that. Nkwa! Nkichi! And because we have a memory yakanyelele, the next time you see an article about shortage of milisi the first thing you do is to throw tantrums at whoever you think is the cause – as if that person is omnipresent to see all that goes on in dark corner deals.

  9. #14. Thenjiwe, I can sense how terrible you are feeling as a result of such activities. But unfair as life may sometimes be, those guys will certainly get “the best” of lawyers who will aid them to go scot-free. I wonder whether one can be a lawyer and at the same time be true Chrsitian because that profession sucks.

  10. #5, and so you are saying “babulilepofye?’ tabaibile?? pantu libala lyabo? such an attitude if that was the case, is so retrogressive.

  11. #16, I really feel bad. it hurts and sucks! they will all go scot free soon. The people who get jail sentences are the ones stealing goats because of hunger. These guys steal just because of greed and selfishness. eishhhhh!

  12. Hello Everybody! The mentality being exhibited by # 5 is shameful and should be roundly condemned.at a time when we are really fighting corruption hard and already tired of it,somebody is endorsing the despicable practice. These officials should be caged for starving people when food was there for them.Very selfish and heartless people.Shame on them.

  13. Strange that theft is always discovered after the crime. Don’t these organisations have anti theft measures in place? or is the all country simply corrupt that no one cares anymore?
