Information and Broadcasting Minister Chishimba Kambwili has been bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree from California University in America.

Dr Kambwili announced that the university awarded him the doctorate degree being one of the most influential politicians of recent time.
He said his hard work and tenacity has paid off.

“Today is a special day for me, I had the rare privilege of being bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree from California University in America. The university through its structured panel have awarded me with this degree due to great services to my community and for being one of the most influential politicians of recent time,” Dr Kambwili said.

He added, “My hard work and tenacity has been greatly rewarded. I have always been a firm believer in hard work and I am extremely grateful for the recognition.”

“I would like to thank God first because without him I wouldn’t be where I am, I would like to thank my wife and children for their unending and unwavering support. From here on I will be referred to as Honourable Dr. Chishimba Kambwili. May I also thank California University for giving me the opportunity to receive such a prestigious award that has been given to so many greats and legends, including Dr Kenneth Kaunda.”

He said, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.”

    • Next will be Dr,Edgar Lungu…anyway using the title Doctor for honorary degrees is a misnomer and only used by an illiterate press in Zambia.Mandela had 10 honorary doctorates but was never called Dr.Mandala, similarly Obama etc…But here we have Dr.Chiluba, Dr.Kaunda and now Dr.Kambwili lol..jokers!!

      Indeed the doctorate title is being devalued. Kabwili is a semi-literate kabovaa who does not qualify even for a diploma serve for Dr, its an insult to those who spend years and years cracking on their PhD thesis!

    • Fun how ignorantly Zambian politicians abuse honorary awards. President Kagame has more that 10 honorary degrees, like many other personalities around the world, but do not use the title “Dr” because it`s inappropriate.
      Whether Kambwili deserves it, its between him and California University. I would be surprised if it was awarded by any of the serious universities in California, and not a small private university trying to find ways of increasing recognition and enrolment numbers.

In other words, they sell fake degrees. Such degrees are very common in India. If he said that it was conferred by the university of California which is a public university the it would have been a different story but not California university. Fake!!!!

  27. There is no California University in the US. The only one I know is some obscure California University of Pennsylvania. The only credible universities in California are those that fall under the University of California system such as Berkeley, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, etc.

      You are the one who needs to do some research. I am American trained and lived in the US for nearly ten years and I stand by what I have stated. In addition to the University of California system, the only other credible universities are those that fall under California State University system. But there is no such thing as California University in California or the US as a whole. I rest my case.

The point is that this university is located in Pennsylvania and not in California. For you, however, I doubt this makes any difference?

I think it’s about time the Zambia Higher Educational Authority and the Zambia Qualifications Authority got involved in the doctorate scams before our country becomes a laughing stock to the rest of the world. For a start, these two bodies must convince the President to issue a Statutory Instrument outlawing the use of the title Dr. by anyone with an honorary doctorate. In addition, these two bodies must design a database for all those with genuinely obtained doctorates from recognized and well – established universities. Such a database should be in the public domain and be open for scrutiny by anyone. This will expose all the quacks currently masquerading as Ba Doctor Ntwani! People with honorary doctorates are not supposed to use the title “Dr.” The great late Nelson Mandela had lots of honorary doctorates bestowed on him but there was never a single day that he was called Dr. Mandela. Even President Zuma has an honorary doctorate awarded by UNZA but he does not use the title Dr. Within Zambia RB has refused to use the title Dr. after Rusangu University awarded him an honorary doctorate.President Kagame too has a number of honorary doctorates but he is still called Mr. Kagame. People with pride and who are knowledgeable will never jump at the title “Dr” simply because a university has bestowed an honorary doctorate on them.

Clearly you’ve never received a degree from a university, otherwise you’d know that California University of Pennsylvania is not the same as California University. As your son or daughter to check this out as you seem too dim to understand the gist of the matter here. Please get informed a little bit more, before commenting on issues as simple as this!

      Just as in UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Irvine, etc., the designation California University, Pennsylvania, is beyond you. Otherwise, California University, Pennsylvania is a tiny online university of no meaningful academic stature, the only one by the name “California” that could have awarded such a honorary degree to your unlearned congressman. A honorary degree from such a university is not worth an iota of admiration, much less commendation.

  99. I think the main issue is not whether this University exists or not. It is who in their right senses would award Kambwili such an honour? This award is normally a recognition of men and women who have contributed to making a real difference in peoples lives – something credible, positive and for all to see. Does Kambwili belong in the hall of the distinguished?

    • A small university, struggling for recognition; the likes of the one mentioned above, would do so for the very opposite reason – its own recognition. Imagine how many people who, only a few days ago, had not the slightest inkling it existed, now know it does?

However I do know for fact there hass bee scam going on where people have been duped into believing theywill have a building named after them at a university and will also be confered with all sorts of honorary degrees. That was purely staged in a Zambian sense. Go online and you can by that Doctorate and the online; those are meant to be used for hanging on walls to create and impress (if you are in need of one) and should not be used as legal document because one risks been slapped with a criminal offense.
