Chiyangi relieved after Nkana end two-match drought

Nkana coach Aggrey Chiyangi says he is relieved that his side managed to beat Mufulira Wanderers on Wednesday despite putting up a below par display at home.

Chiyangi’s Kalampa laboured to beat Wanderers 2-1 at Nkana Stadium to stay top of the FAZ Super Division table with 23 points from 10 matches played.

In a post-match interview, Chiyangi admitted that Nkana’s display against relegation-threatened Wanderers was not convincing.

“For me I think what is important is that we got three points. Yes, we have not played according to expectations but football is about competition,” he said.

Prior to the match against Wanderers, Nkana had lost 3-1 at Green Buffaloes in Lusaka before holding Power Dynamos to a 1-1 draw in the Kitwe derby at the weekend.

“It feels good to win because had we drawn again or lost this game it was going to put so much pressure on us. Winning at home is very important and we have to maintain the same spirit,” Chiyangi said.

Wanderers acting coach Chewe “Bomber” Mulenga lamented his side’s fourth loss of the season.

“The game was 50-50. We just made that mistake and allowed them to score that early goal. My players went to sleep that’s how we allowed that goal.” Mulenga said.

Wanderers are fourth from the bottom of the table with 9 points from 11 games going into Saturday’s Week 12 match against Power Dynamos at Shinde Stadium.

“This game against Nkana is water under the bridge we now have to focus on the match against Power,” Mulenga said.
