This afternoon Mr. Hichilema addressed a press briefing at Moba Hotel in Kitwe. He covered a number of issues from violence to the recent ruling by the Constitutional Court that PF ministers have continued in office illegally and must now pay back all the money they owe to the Zambian people.
Following attempts by the PF to cancel the UPND’s final rallies and further attacks on supporters, including the UPND youth team travelling by bus in Mtendere yesterday, Mr. Hichilema put the question to Lungu ‘What are you afraid off to be behaving like this?’. He called for institutions, such as ZICTA and the Zambia Police, to resist being abused and misused by Lungu so as to deny citizens their rights.
Mr. Hichilema called for calm saying: “I want to say thank you to all UPND members who have behaved calmly in the face of provocation during the campaign period and I want to ask you to continue on like this.”
He explained the significance of the Constitutional Court ruling of Monday 8th August as evidence that Lungu has benefitted from state resources during the campaign. He said, however, while the campaign period had not been free and fair President Lungu should make sure he doesn’t interfere with the election itself, or he will find himself being ruled against in the courts.
Not only has the Constitutional Court now ruled against Lungu, but in the last 24 hours the High Court has ruled in the UPND’s favour on PF attempts to have the rally in Kitwe’s Freedom Park cancelled, as well as the ongoing matter with ZNBC on the airing of the UPND’s documentary entitled ‘Hakainde Hichilema – The Man, The Vision, The Plan’. Mr. Hichilema explained that this in combination with the UPND’s plan to protect the vote and commitment by our supporters to turnout in great numbers on Thursday will take the party to a conclusive first round victory.

The most credible ConCourt with a final verdict has just set up a living precedence. Losers can run to this court and prepare to swallow given verdict. Tomorrow 18:00HRS, all campaign artillery goes silent voting and national security plays the role. Productive citizens goes back to developing the country.

Simple minds view a court judgment as a win or a lose. Great minds view such judgment as a standard of what is right or justice in short. I prefer President Lungu’s attitude to appreciate the decision of court rather than brag that 1 has won. I also think he had great vision in ensuring passage of new constitution & establishing ConCourt so that all Zambians can access it including UPND, LAZ, etc. Do you remember UPND how you opposed Constitution & ConCourt? Although you can’t appreciate it but it is a fact & good that you can enjoy the very things you were opposing. May God make you see light so that you stop opposing the referendum on Bill of Rights so that Zambians can enjoy these new rights as you enjoying new constitution now.
Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Being a lawyer, I think the President should have consulted widely before insisting that there was nothing wrong with the ministers continuing in office. Nothing could have stopped the President from asking the Con Court Judges privately to interpret the law before taking that decision unless there was an ulterior motive behind it. The court’s decision is enough evidence to nullify the election of the president and the ministers because they used state resources unfairly to the disadvantage of the opposition parties. Bola Yayipa apa. Simply accepting the decision of the court is not sufficient. The law should take it course. All former ministers should from today be considered law breakers or criminals for lack of a better term to use.

@18 Mabvu, I believe this is a good prediction but you could have have been even more charitable to UPND bcoz in some cases where PF may not get seats,independents may even do better than UPND candidates, are in most cases campaigning for Lungu hightening chances for him as voters then tend to see him as a better candidate. What some cadres are forgetting is the impact of some minor opposition partiesy since they seem to have some relative popularity in some areas where UPND seems to hope to score more votes e.g.FDD and Rainbow in some areas of Lusaka Rural and Central Province respectively. HH’s supporters from MMD had been there even in Jan’15 so nothing new to add while Lungu has fully roped in Eastern which was divided then.

There are No correct or incorrect answers to the economic problems facing this country- only honest and dishonest ones. The honest being presented by Mr. Lungu and his team and the dishonest by UPND leadership. Tomorrow 11 August we shall shut up the extruders of lies.
