The 2017 Africa Cup qualifying show is over but we take a look how Zambia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Group B opponents fared and closed their respective qualifying race for next January’s continental championship to be hosted by Gabon.

=ALGERIA
On Sunday, Algeria smashed Lesotho 6-0 at home to finish unbeaten and as runaway leaders in Group J on 16 points, five points ahead of Ethiopia.

Striker El Arbi Soudani of Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia scored a brace in the 8th and 39th minutes.

Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez also scored a brace with goals in the 17th and 74th minutes.

Midfielders Saphir Taider and Ryad Boudebouz of Torino and Montpellier added a goal each in the 24th and 45th minute respectively.

=CAMEROON
Cameroon also qualified unbeaten in Group M on 14 points, six points ahead of Mauritania after a 2-0 home win over Gambia on Saturday.

Marseille striker Bejamin Moukanjo put Cameroon ahead from the penalty spot in the 35th minute and another Ligue 1-based attacker Karl Toko Ekambi of Metz added the final goal in the 53rd minute.

=NIGERIA
Nigeria, like Zambia, are not going to the Africa Cup but they won after a 1-0 home win over Tanzania on Saturday.

  1. If team selection was based on votes by fans on who should play and on what field, i think we can qualify, because its like we fans have experience on our own players and know them better than these inexperienced coaches, time will tell when fans will be selecting the team because again these local coaches or assistants have grudges and kalijos against certain players..anyway all the best chipolopolo!

    • Sad but true. Our coaches need serious close supervision at National team level. Sundays game was another of clear failure by the technical team to plan diligently. No mbesuma meant the team needed different tactics to play Kenya. After all the criticism labled at Patson Daka, he would have been the best player to take up Mbesuma’s place given his pace and current form. Too late, appoint the boer now so he can kick some sense in these clueless players. Best Technical team Igesund, Dan Kabwe, Manfred Chabing and Wedson Nyirenda, Get rid of Chintu Kampamba!

  2. In our group we performed the worst. So expect us to end up at the foot of the table given the scores above

  3. In finance, there is what is called forecasting or prediction these depend on the current trend and prevailing circumstances to determine the future. If today you fail to score a goal or struggle to score one what will change the next three weeks. Unless you changed drastically the prevailing circumstances will you change the results. There is a poor mentality right now on our players, unless they change drastically will they reap tangible results!
