50,000 to benefit from govt welfare support

Government says 50,000 people will benefit from the Public Welfare Assistance Scheme (PWAS) Fund.

In an interview with ZANIS today, Community Development and Social Welfare Minister, Emerine Kabanshi said K6 million has been earmarked for distribution to vulnerable people.

Mrs. Kabanshi said once the Ministry of Finance releases the funds, over 50,000 vulnerable children and elderly citizens country-wide will access the social welfare assistance.

Mrs. Kabanshi further added that her ministry has partnered with various organizations and managed to provide alternative assistance to vulnerable people under the social security scheme.

The PWAS is a government’s social assistance programme aimed at mitigating social economic shocks and other negative effects such as, poverty and the HIV and AIDS pandemic.
