Four children perish as house collapses on them in Siavonga

Four children of the same family have died when the house they were sleeping in collapsed as a result of heavy rain in Kanyelele compound in Siavonga District in Southern Province.

And two more houses have collapsed in the same compound and one person has been injured.

Siavonga District Commissioner (DC) and Siavonga Member of Parliament (MP) confirmed the Development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) that the incident happened around zero two hours today.

Siavonga District Commissioner (DC) Lovemore Kanyama said at the scene of the incident that the wall fence from the neighbour‘s house collapsed on Mr Kenneday Chiti’s house and buried the children who were asleep.

Mr Kanyama said efforts to save the Children by the parents failed as the time they managed to remove the rubble that buried them they had already died.

The DC has since expressed sadness at the death of four children Harriet Chiti aged 12, George Chiti 15, Robson Chiti 10, and Bwalya Tembo aged seven years.

Mr Kanyama said government will ensure that the bereaved family is assisted through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

Siavonga MP Darious Mulunda has also expressed shock at the sudden death of the four Children and called for unit among the residents of Siavonga to ensure that the burden for the bereaved family is alleviated.

Mr Mulunda described the incident as unfortunate especially that the collapse of the house was as a result of the wall fence from the neighbour which fell on it.

The Bodies of the four children are lying in Siavonga district hospital.

  1. We in upnd mourn with you. This is a sad day . Losing future leaders breaks my heart. Surely can we say Zambia has a government? How can government turn blind eye to unfit structures like these? When government fails to provide affordable housing then this is the result. Pf has blood on its hands. Let us resoundingly reject Pf by voting nez as best blogger

    • Why does politics have to come into everything? This is a tragedy, the lives of 4 children have been cut short. It shouldn’t matter whether your UPND, PF, FDD; as Zambians we should mourn this loss of life! Not exploit it and use it to attack another political party. Have you no shame?

  2. Very sad reading and condolences to the bereaved. This country in my view should just be closed one day and the name buried. What kind of a country is this where law and order are foreign? Any idiot can wake up and put up a structure, no inspection from the civic leaders, no information on quality nothing at all at all. Now you let the little children die because of lawlessness, lack of vision and reverse gear. Tears will never dry in this vision less country and leadership..

  3. This is not a country. Such things happen in war torn countries. Neither the PF nor the opposition is going to lift us out of this situation. Have you not seen that the country is deteriorating in all areas, governance, economy, health care(go and see the mess at UTH) and you have a minister of health who loves the lime light instead of working. Kariba water levels have improved, we are still load shedded. God help us

  4. WHEN A TRAGEDY LIKE THAT HAPPENS IN SOUTHERN, WESTERN OR NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE, YOU NEVER HEAR ANY STATEMENT FROM LUNGU AND HIS MINIONS. BUT IF IT WAS COPPERBELT OR EASTERN PROV COUNTLESS MESSAGES COULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED EVEN BY CONFUSED PEOPLE LIKE FATHER BWALWA. WHAT A DEVIDED COUNTRY WE LIVE IN TODAY??
