The labour movement in Northern Province has applauded government for its intention to embark on the process of gazetting 1700 schools countrywide.
Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) Regional Director in Charge of administration Musonda Mushikanimbo made the commendation in an interview with ZANIS in Kasama today.
The step taken by government to gazette the schools across the country will mean that more payroll vacancies and positions will be created for teachers who are in need of promotions and placement, Mr. Mushikanimbo said.
He said a number of teachers in Northern Province have upgraded their professional qualifications but have not been promoted because they are serving in schools which are not gazetted.
In addition to the existing schools Northern Province has , government will gazette a total of 116 schools which have been upgraded to secondary level.
He said the move will be a motivation to teachers and will increase their morale to even work harder to sustain the good performance the province has recorded in the past examinations.
The BETUZ regional director has also commended government for announcing to recruit 2,600 more teachers this year.
Mr. Mushikanimbo said the move will increase staffing and reduce the daunting pupil/teacher ratio in various schools.
He said although the demand is still quite high, the planned recruitment this year by government will go a long way in alleviating the problem of understaffing.
Hope it is not politics as usual. Teachers in the sata upgraded schools worked for full three years without being paid the rightful salary for teaching at secondary. Worse for the head teachers and acting heads of departments.
Where do you find 2600 qualified teachers in 9 months and how will their increase in wages be paid
@Masalamuso -there are many people in Zambia who are qualified teachers even more than the mentioned number who are waiting for the reruitment opportunity.
Next time govt shud start by gazetting before making the announcement. E.g. Gazette a place before announcing that it’s a district. Ifintu NI HAPHAZARD LYONSE!
let govt pay those heads,d/head s/trs and hods who are working those ungazetted schools but confirmed without getting the rightful salary
No coruption this tym. Giv the posts to those wu have bin working in those positions. Avoid bringing in yo favoured pipo wu have not bin working for thes posts especially in rural places dont dare, pipo will end up fighting en killing one another if u make just one sinful mistake u pipo in th driving seat.
