Ex-Under-20 captain Sebastian Mwansa has hailed Zambia’s qualification to this May’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.

Zambia booked a place at Junior World Cup on Wednesday after reaching the semifinals of the ongoing Under-20 Africa Cup on home soil.

Mwansa, who captained Zambia at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada, said he was happy to see the team end a 10-year absence from the global competition.

“The Under-20 have done well by qualifying for the World Cup. It is been long since we participated at the Word Cup,” the Green Buffaloes midfielder said.

This will be Zambia’s third appearance at the Under-20 World Cup having made its debut at the 1999 edition in Nigeria.

“Zambia should not be missing at such tournaments because we have quality and skillful players,” Mwansa said.

Mwansa further advised Beston Chambeshi’s boys to focus on the Africa Cup.

Zambia are in the semifinals of the Africa Cup with a perfect record after beating Guinea 1-0, Mali 6-1 and Egypt 3-1.

“The young players are performing well. For now let them put the World Cup behind and focus on winning Africa Cup,” he said.

Mwansa featured for the Junior Chipolopolo together with Nyambe Mulenga, Clifford Mulenga,Justin Zulu, Emmanuel Mayuka, William Njobvu, Jacob Banda, Roger Kola and Goodson Kachinga among others.

Take them for intensive PRE – MRI scanning before going to the world cup, to avoid embarrassment again.

I am not Tonga but I was born there and have half of my family in that land. Honestly speaking, there is little scouting done in this region. I remember some minister appealing to the coaches to go and tap talent in Southern province and others to beef up some of these top flight league contenders that have average players but I see nothing come from this area. Look at such boys as Patson Daka and others are coming from Kafue but other names like Ha…..something or Sia…..or Nali……, Muna……Na……Wa….from Western. Balancing of the team is very important so that we have less talk on tribe lines. Its true that performance is key but all can work from East, West, South, North etc
