Sinda District Commissioner warns drunk civil servants of instant dismissal

Government has warned against beer drinking during working hours or face instant dismissal. Sinda District Commission Paradious Sakala says drinking beer during working hours is against government’s condition of service as this would attract instant dismissal.

ZANIS reports that Mr Sakala sounded a warning at a one day stakeholders consultative meeting held at Tilitose Primary School resource centre in Sinda District, yesterday.

He said this following mis-conduct of some named civil servants in chief Kathumba’ s chiefdom.

He apologised to Chief Kathumba together with Chieftainess Nyanje and Kawaza for the misconduct adding that the condition of service is clear that any drunk civil servant risks instant dismissal once found wanting.

Mr Sakala stated that his office has already held a meeting with civil servants on the matter where it was agreed that whoever will be found wanting will be dismissed.

“The people should do citizen arrest and take such a worker to the hospital whose final punishment is dismal from work after proof from
the hospital as only then will the habit be stopped” he said.

The DC has also appealed to chief’s to discourage selling illicit beer in villages as this would deter the needed social-economic development in their respective chiefdoms.

Meanwhile, Mr Sakala has expressed happiness over the willingness of the three traditional leaders to participate in the development of the
district by actively attending meetings.

This is because traditional leaders are key to the development of the district , he said adding that their active participation will accelerate
the development of the area.

The DC further stated that the eagerness shown by the chiefs to attend developmental meetings is a motivation among civil servants and other
stakeholders in the district.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss how government departments were performing in terms of service delivery in
a bid to have a feedback from the chiefs and other stakeholders.

And representing the three traditional rulers chieftainess Nyanje said holding of such meetings will accelerate development in the district.

The Chieftainess said there is need to frequently meet to ensure the needs in terms of development are tabled for feedback from the
responsible departments through such important gatherings.

She also said most areas still faces challenges of poor road network while lack of accommodation still needs urgent attention.
