THE construction of the first ever university in Luapula Province at a US$50 million is set to start in October this year.

The Frederick Jacob Titus Chiluba University, which will be built in Mansa district, is expected to accommodate over 1,000 students in different fields of study.

Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa said in an interview recently that the project will create a lot of job opportunities for the local people at both construction and operational stage.

Mr Chilangwa said President Lungu has named the university after late second Republican President Frederick Chiluba in honour of his contribution to the nation.

“Government has set aside US$50 million for the construction of the first university in Luapula Province,” Mr Chilangwa said.

The minister said once completed, the university will benefit many people in the region as they will not have to travel long distances to access higher education.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) government is committed to the provision of quality education at all levels.

Mr Chilangwa said Government’s decision to build a university in Luapula Province has excited the people in the region.

  1. Come October, it will be ZERO FTJ university! As per usual, PF bandits are just yapping.

Where is the Zambian National Airline now PF bandits & Mukanga?

Where is Enock Kavindele’s North west railway project which never started in January 2017 with the never employed 13,000 ghost workers?

Tick tock tick tock is PF’s food!

Where is the K5/ltr oil from Saudi Arabia?

    • Going by the article’s reasoning North Western should have a university basis it’s contribution to National Cake

    • How long will the rest of the Zambians be used to pay to develop Luapula at the expense of their own development? We need order in how collective resources are used and allocated.

  2. Are any of the new universities accredited worldwide… are their degrees recognized oversees or just within zambia

    • Very good question. Rushing to build new universities when the ones we have can barely stand and our degrees are not internationally recognised

  3. Why the preference for Individual and not place names. The name of the University should ideally take after its location and not that of an individual. Damn Robert Mugabe, FTJ Unis.

  4. Where is all this money coming from…instead of improving existing universities you are taking money from productive provinces and sending to Luapula.

    • @5 Jay Jay, Your HATRED FOR PEOPLE FROM LUAPULA WILL KILL YOU!! All along we have had the Copperbelt resources being used to develop the entire country, so what productive provinces are you talking about that should merit development over others?? JUST WAIT and WATCH how LUAPULA WILL SOON CHANGE AS POWER GENERATION(Luapula river,Kalungwishi) MINING(copper, manganese, Oil & gas) AGRICULTURE (sugar , coffee, tea, aquaculture)start happening! ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW IS THAT, THERE IS NO POOR PROVINCE IN ZAMBIA, BUT ONLY THOSE WHICH ARE UNDER DEVELOPED!! WHO KNEW BEFORE THAT NW PROVINCE WOULD TAKE OVER FROM THE CB AS A MAJOR MINING PROVINCE?? and I can tell you almost all provinces are like that!!

  5. Joke of the century the usual nonsense of govt ministers enriching themselves through tenders ! KEY WORDS CONFLICT OF INTEREST does not apply in Zambia!

  6. Wondering why for sake of Span of Zambia. WE have so many universities spanned in two close regional provinces in the likes of Muchinga and Luapula? I would have loved in this instance the university be constructed in Eastern Province and or Western Province and or North west..We do not have public renowned university in these provinces.

  7. gOVERNMNET HAS NO US$50MILLION, BUT Iam told HH paid such an amount to be releazed, also the UPND lawyers savings after dicontinuing the case.

  8. Mr Lungu, please dont hate the people of Luapula based on the news you hear about development from Politicians and others. I have traveled across Zambia extensively and i dont see any development that surpases other provinces. If anything, Luapula is the least developed region in Zambia followed by Western pronces and North western province and Northern. Most of the districts along the line of have morethan 5 secondary fullfledged secondary schools and yet in Luapula, and this other provinces listed have only 1 per district and in some cases non. This is the reason you find the imbalances in the number of children finishing secondary schools per province.
    Thank you

  9. Late MCS went to Mongu for ground breaking of King Lewanika University and to date there are just cattle grazing on the allocated piece of land.
    Kuwayawaya fela.

  10. “Government has set aside US$50 million for the construction of the first university in Luapula Province,” Mr Chilangwa said.

    Really?

  11. More universities more graduates. Employers then want higher qualifications for clerical positions.
Parents strive to give childrdn educationmbut at the end of the day there are noy enough jobs for all the educated pipo.focys on job creation, you want agriculture, aquaculture to spearhead diversity then create agricultural colleges that embrace animal husbandry, farming and aquaculture. Unrecognized universities churning out degree holders with no prospect of employment only brings the economy down. Prioritize for the people, providing a pathway from poverty to prosperity . Too much time spent politicking whic is non productive

  12. We hear nothing about Paul Mushindo University. These projects are not different from Mulungushi Textiles that was reopened by His Exellency the president. It has since created local jobs to Kabwe people as pronounced by the president himself. We heard same remarks regarding Paul Mushindo. Land will be cleared in Luapula, come 2021 it will be campaign slogan.

  13. It always hate to find that these universities are increasing only to some provinces… Eastern has no public university… Pipo struggling to find education. But here in Zambia there are only putting structures focusing the projective provinces. Here in eastern we have never hav any givenmnt development. Is it due to our idleness we don’t talk or what . being the highest of maize producer we are crying everyday. Am seeing the answer in next three years. There was a glance project to started at Katete where we heard a university. Please where ar being taken. From my little idea I see when a farmer has appreciated the government in power by giving them good prices its a sign of that governm to b given another mandate. And even the country GDP increases… Money become our friends not this…
