ZNUT says there is no need to increase teachers’ salaries

ZNUT Spokesperson Joe Kasaka

Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) has advised teachers across the country to forget about their salaries being increased.

ZNUT Spokesperson Joe Kasaka says the government  will not award any salary increment to teachers even this August and that he doesn’t even know when negotiations with government will start.

Mr  Kasaka, however, says  ZNUT supports the move by the government to split the University of Zambia into university colleges as this will promote efficiency.

He says this will make it easier for management to monitor the operations of the university colleges and avoid some of the common challenges at the institution.

    • I think so too. He must have been misquoted or he could have taken a lot of katata.
      What a disaster!

    • These people have very high salaries but because they have obtained loans for and leading expensive lives these salaries have shrunk. No matter how many times the salaries are increased it’ll never be enough.

  1. He must have been misquoted. This is the kind of leadership ZNUT has?they better call for elections ASAP

  2. This man is mad. Ok maybe he was misquoted. Such leaders are a big let down to all teachers in Zambia. No need to increase teachers salaries – really? Maybe we can talk of no need if all teachers get a take home of over K50pin so long others are below that threshold!
    What a disaster!

  3. Looks like there is someone who is strategically and politically placing himself to replace him. I don’t think He can say this…

  4. Comment:
Teachers unions have indeed gone to the dogs. A union official optimises defeatistic tendencies. SAD!

  5. ZNUT is very useless union I dont why it existed since its a surrogate of PF government. Teachers are also sleeping 24/7*336.

  6. There are no unions left in Zambia.
Every one of the calling itself a union now is a PF mouthpiece.

They need foreigne unions to comment for them……

  7. Ts baffling to read such stories . Are they happening right here in mother Zambia? Tichers where a u.

  8. But any sane mind knows that he cant say there is no need for salary increament, so I don’t know why mupalapata and demeaning him. Surely the man was misqouted

  9. Do the Editors at LT know how to phrase titles? Can we please demand at least for their G12 Certificates or do they also only have birth certificates and are now waiting for their death certificates?

  10. come on people! you dont need a rocket scientist to tell you that Zambia is broke and cannot afford to increase civil servants salaries

  11. How useless is this representative, nanga in ndalama za nyoko o zawiso wat is yo salary scale

Let the Boot leaker be removed and take him back to chalkboard is a molon

  13. What type of food were u fed for u to conclude that tichas do not need increments who did u consulted and who are u representing

  14. These onions are capable of anything! As a teacher am not worried about salary increament. We get enough, except we have gone in too much borrowing of loans. My worry is the money we contribute to these onions, over a K100. But they have never given even a coffin to their members. Look at Madison, with a K27 they are giving K 25 000. May u give teacher contributions to Madison insurance. Bakabwalala imwe!

  15. Nangu tapasoswa, can a Union leader thinks so low and say I that, sure why do people work? Every Jim and Jack wants an increment every year, and to my suplize the one speaking on behalf of govt spokes person has got huge sums of allowances and some teachers in chienge are suffering, ba mwalimu where are you to keep the as your Union leader?
