Government warns against absconding developmental meetings

Government has warned against absconding developmental meetings as the occasions were vital for national development.

Lukulu District Commissioner Kaumba Manjolo says government workers and stakeholders in Lukulu District in Western Province are therefore advised to take developmental meetings seriously.

Speaking during the official opening of the District Development Coordinating Committee meeting at the council chamber, today, Mr. Manjolo said the meetings provide a fora for all stakeholders to discuss and make sure various developmental issues are implemented effect in the district.

The strength of the district is measured by how best developmental programs are coordinated hence the importance of meetings such as DDCC and sub-committees, he said.

The District Commissioner also urged all heads of department to provide weekly and quarterly reports to the district administration office.

He pointed out that it is through these reports that the provincial administration becomes aware of what is happening in the district regarding implementation of developmental projects.

He said such projects which are under way include the Cashew infrastructure development program and the phase two of Lukulu district hospital.

The DC has since called on all officers who have been entrusted with the responsibility of planning, implementing and monitoring of government programs to apply themselves fully to ensure that projects are successfully completed.

Mr. Manjolo lamented that it is disheartening that some projects are taking years to be completed due to proper monitoring and lack of coordination by offices involved.

Earlier, Mr. Manjolo warned that the district administration office is concerned with the deteriorating working standards by some officer’s in-terms of reporting late for work.

Mr. Manjolo cautioned that any worker reporting for work after 08:00 hours without convincing reasons will be subjected to disciplinary actions.
