Govt signing of MoU with mining explorations firm irks chief Mushima

Share

Chief Mushima of Mufumbwe district the recently announced signing of a memorandum of understanding between government and ZAMKOR to carry out mineral explorations in his chiefdom was done without the consultation of the local people.

Chief Mushima said in a statement today that he was shocked to hear Local government and Housing Deputy Minister Ben Tetamashimba’s announcing that government signed an MOU with ZAMKOR to carry out mineral explorations in Lwamakambi, in Mufuambwe district without his knowledge.

He described the announcement by Mr. Tetamashimba as an insult to his chiefdom and a disgrace to his royal establishment.

He claimed that Mr. Tetamashimba, who is also Solwezi Central member of parliament had not consulted him over the mineral explorations in his chiefdom.

He said that he was not against promoting economic development in Zambia and North Western province in particular, but that such important investments should be made in consultation with the local people.

Efforts to get a comment from Mr. Tetamashimba failed by press time.

  1. The whole area of the relationship between traditional leaders and politicians needs to be sorted out. It is inconceivable that politicians would totally disregard chiefs and their subjects if the authority of the chiefs were enshrined in law. Of course the behaviour of some members of royal establishments has also been less than glorious. Bickering over successions and giving away huge amounts of land to foreigners for next to nothing are just two examples.

  2. It seems wrong that central government can ‘give away’ land without the local chief’s, and by extension without the local peoples’, consent. When commodity prices start falling again there will be a lot of holes left behind all over the country as mining companies take flight. The sad part is that local people will be left to clean up the mess. Kabwe should be a lesson to the wise!

  3. What does the so called local chief know about mining? Honestly we should do away with these sort of institutions. They are relics of a past that should forever be erased from our memories! Consult some dude in a so called Palace? My foot!

  4. Shikulu bantu ba Pragmatist at 72yrs you are no different from Ba Jose at 28yrs. Your conduct and behaviour are the same as 28yrs Jose, pls shikulu grow up, when are you going to get mature in mind. Blogging with big words which most pipo can hardly understanding is not being educated, it is actually fooling yourself.

  5. #3 Its you who seem to know nothing about chiefs. They have the right to know whats happeing in their chiefdoms. They have te mandate to protect/care for their subjects at all times. They have the right to participate in any development taking place in their areas. They have to be informed of the benefits of any development to the local people. Its time for the government to become inclusive in programme establishments.

  6. Anonymous(4),
While i acknowledge your passion for elementary level language like “this is mulenga and Jelita”, Public blogging cannot be at the level of illiterates only despite their abundance.Writing is an art that improves with time and level of education. The best you could do is encourage your folks to get back to school in some non mechanized programs.Social sciences with intensive reading and writing like Economics, law, Public policy, philosophy, international politic and psycology could

  7. I have no trouble with escalated vocabulary but Joze’s insults in broken mixture of Bemba and Nyamulenge. If anything, i easily follow Easy’s broken English than Joze’s writing in any dialect. He insults every time he bumps in a learned free thinker looking down on his saviour Sata

  8. EASY.. Apparently you support every action “DR” LPM takes without even looking at the facts. Some of the firings are purelly political. And yes some of these chaps are inept and they need to be fired. I think We should terminate the nchito contracts which has drained our resources with nothing to show for. He should have fired Banda and promoted Nkonde to be ACC Dir Gen. The offices ACC Dir, And Task force Dir should be above reproach.

  9. Are chiefs voted into office? if not their mandate should be limited to ‘ceremonial/traditional’ issues. If chiefs were allowed to ‘rule’, there would be no fish in luapula river today!

  10. 3# You so shallow minded, need some traditional education about our culture, customs, norms and beliefs. How would you feel someone coming into your front door and start ploughing without your consent? You are so pathetic driven by short sighted brainless and toothless movement for madarax dealers who have lost direction, innovations and ideas about the importance of our traditional rulers coz they want to enrich themselves. This govt does not listern to its pipo maybe after their term in 2011.

  11. Guyz its true, these so called chiefs do not know anything, these so called chiefs are semi-ileterates who depends sorely on advice, dont even try to argue with me coz iam speaking from experience when i lived in Choma in 2005,but we shuld kip them for culture preservation and not for decisions requiring experts like mineral explorations.

  12. #12 Iwe, have respect for our traditional rulers man. Chiefs can be semi-iliterates but they have hearts for their pipo unlike your so called Dr Deaths (Chuchu) whose heart is like a stone, never to be moved even by the death of his own mother(MHSRI).

  13. # 12,respect is good,we dont want insults to start flourishing above sense,so just check yo brain before you decide to write anything,if u were not tonga i would have insulted you severely but we come from the same place though i was brought up on the copperbelt…

  14. Zambia’s Vice president Rupiah Banda is scheduled to represent Zambia, at the heads of state summit in Uganda. Why are we being represent by the Veep? Where is Dr Chuchu? Is he in London hospital again or the expired ARVs Miti imported have backfired to him or is it chipumputu again? Get someone answer pls.

  15. #16
Pipo get the right fact from me.Dr Chuchu is very sick and he cannot stand for more than 10 minutes without getting to toilet mukusunda. He’s not fully recovered.Dr Miti and co have discovered that ilibu lyakwe has changed colour kwati utu abika kangala(kachasu). Now rumour has it Teta is eyeing for the post.Rupiah Banda is not different from presdo Mu7 of Uganda kubufutu, worse of it he has divorced his wife they have spent time for 37 yrs and marry grand daughter aged 20,(Chilatondwe)shemuna

  16. Would someone define insult to me?Am a follower of ba Joze and Kuku and I see no insults in their postings.VIVA BA JOZE plz dont stop blog like Kuku we cherish your postings.

  17. 17..You mean veep at 80+++ is married to a young girl in her 20s?? What a shame!! I think this amounts to defilement. What can stop such people from defiling young girls. These MMD guys are surprising, just like Findly. Anyway its no issue for them, as even their previous and current bosses, they enjoy “women for change” concept. Take back the first or second and get another new one.

  18. Rupiah Banda has divorced his wife they have spent 57 years(erratum #17)and is has married a 20yr school girl kumurandu was Viagra alecibaula every night. This is a real fact and he is not ashamed of introducing her to pipo.Pipo, am here to exponse the MMD bedroom and their misdeeds.

  19. SAGE is now you are waking up. I made that comment yesterday. Those pipo you are mentioning require scruitiny and accountable. Corruption charges are not easy to prove before a court of or justice to prevail. The problem is not ACC and Task force but the witnesses who change their minds in the dock hence the prosecutors look foolish before the court. I know personally pipo who have withdrawn their statemtents at the eleventh hour. The court needs proof and concrete testimony.

  20. #23 Easy,
Kabili aba boss bobe without morals.Nichimonzi monzi na Peter Kaumba who has failed to clean his house ati ba coach ba U23.It’s time now the govt must go for quality leaders especially those who have no broken homes.Anyway for Rupiah case,it’s the person who appointed who is render society a non functional and that person must be thick headed to see ZERO VALUE in Banda as valuable chattels.

  22. fellow contributors…..have you noticed that if we are not using foul language directed at each other…we direct it to the national leadership (opposition included)? I’m assuming EACH of us are well brought up,reasonable, respectful and responsible citizens. Can i assume our behaviour on LT mirrors the calibre of internet literate Zambians ?? When i’m going through the numerous posts on various topics on LT….i wonder how accurate my assumptions are ??

  23. #22 EASy the issue here is not the witnesses but the caliber of the prosecution team. Particulary the Ncitos who have been hired for a Job on training on such an important issue as corruption. Like i mentioned we have a lot of corrupt elements in the Justice deprt like Kitoba, Banda etc. Anyone involved in the prosecution of corrupt elements should be above reproach themselves. Their name can not be mentioned in the same breath with corruption….

  24. A mere mention of Banda and Kitobe in corrupt practices is enough reason a summary dismisal. They have brough the entire fight on corruption into disrepute. If Nkonde is linked to any misdeads its good redance. The entire fight on corruption hinges on the integrity of the officers heading institutions like ACC, DEC, Task Force. If you live in a glass house do not accept these appointments. We demand a prudent fight on corruption. We dont want corrupt elements persecuting other desidends…..

  25. We want upright Zambians to be appointed to such positions in order to have a fight on corruption that citizens can respect and Zambia can benefit from. LPM you have 4 years to go and nothing to show for on the corruption front. It still can be done with the right people in the right places. And niga please you are not a King, stop the crap of having Impombo neel before you. Its imbarasing to the nation.
