Cote d’Ivoire coach Kamara impressed with Zambia

Cote d’Ivoire coach Ibrahim Kamara believes Zambia are going places at 2018 CHAN.

The Elephants were downed 2-0 by Zambia on Thursday night in Marrakech to see them eliminated from the tournament with a game in hand after losing their opening two Group B matches.

Namibia, who have joined Zambia in the quarterfinals, beat Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in their opening game on January 14.

“Zambia performed well and showed that they have what it takes to thrive in a competition of this nature,” Kamara said.

“We came here to prove ourselves but it did not work. We are disappointed. We have to win and keep a smile on the faces of our fans at least and to leave with our heads high.”

It was the second time that Zambia had beaten Cote d’Ivoire in The CHAN following a 3-0 win in 2009 in another group match on Chipolopolo’s way to finishing third.

Zambia victory was secured thanks to a brace from Augustine Mulenga in the 7th and 75th minutes to see the 2009 bronze medal winners qualify for their third successive knockout stage appearance in as many outings.

  1. Way to go. Give credit where its due, even if you don’t like the person. Its always commendable for giving due credit.
