The Non-Governmental Organizations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) says government should address the short comings of the 2016 amended constitution as parliament resumes sittings on February 20th.

NGOCC Executive Director Engwasa Mwale said the lacunas of the 2016 constitution should be addressed and a clear road map of how government will solve challenges shown to the people of Zambia.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS today, Mrs. Mwale said parliament should make sure it comes up with a successful referendum that will allow the bill of rights.

The second session of the 12th National Assembly, which adjourned in December 2017, will resume sitting on 20th February 2018.

The executive director said as parliament resumes, it is expected to ensure that it puts more focus on ensuring gender equality and equity.

NGOCC urged parliament to address the issues of men and women equally.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Mwale has commended the President for appointinh Mumbi Phiri as Member of Parliament.

She observedthat Mumbi phiri’s nomination is a push in the right direction and putting women in decision making position should be encouraged by all well-meaning Zambians.

  1. Yeah a lot of confusion in this constitution.
    1. How can the head of the judiciary (chief justice) not be a part of the highest court (constitution court) in the land? He/she shld chair that court.
    2. 50%+1 is a non starter in a tribal inclined country like Zambia. A mere majority should be OK. Otherwise let it apply to ALL elective positions.
    3. Heads of institutions like Electral commission, public prosecuter, etc should either be elected or voted for & veted by parliament.
    4. MPs should also be restricted to a two (2) term limit. Same with councilors & mayors.
    5. Etc etc etc

  2. Ministers should be appointed from outside parliament to avoid the fiasco Lungu created allowing ministers to continue serving after parliament was dissolved!

  3. DIRECTORS OF PARASTATALS BE SELECTED BY BOARD MEMBERS NOT PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENT, ALL MPs must declare assets as well as ministers, polygamy must be encouraged and no man should seek consent of first wife when marrying a second one, dowry be abolised, political parties must be funded by government based on % scored in the previous election, State house is not a labor Office or soliciting for Contracts, all elected Mps go through mandatOry HIV NGATI KANAYAKA , IMMEDIATE BY ELECTION BE DONE, DIPLOMATIC JOBS BE ADVERTISED, THE LIST IS ENDLESS

  4. The best way to deal with the Constitution is stop amendments, no matter how ridiculous it is we will get used to it over time. Can’t you see how Christians have embraced the senseless notion that God had a son with a woman that wasn’t his wife!
