Government says it is on the right path to spur social and economic development of the country.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, Dora Siliya says government has adopted a multi-sectoral approach in developing the country both socially and economically.

Speaking when she featured on ‘The Interview Programme’ on Millennium radio station this Morning, Ms. Siliya said the developmental activities taking place in different parts of the country are being done in line with the Seventh National Development Plan(7NDP) which is a road map to the vision 2030.

She stated that it is the first time the Republican President has introduced quarterly reports from ministries saying this is instilling a sense of responsibility in them.

In the agriculture sector, the Minister explained that government will soon come up with farming blocks which will empower people with land for agricultural activities.

“The Farm block that will soon be functional will see people being empowered with land. It is not only the provision of land but government will ensure that the basic services like water and energy are available,” she said.

She further said government has secured 200 hectares of land in the Northern Province that will benefit the young people.

And on housing, Ms. Siliya said government has plans to start partnering with the private sector in building 200,000 decent houses annually in the country to reduce the huge deficit that the country is having.

“We have plans to build 200,000 decent houses per year to address the shortage of decent housing units in the country. Of course this will not be done solely by government but in partnership with the private sector,” she said.

Ms. Siliya also clarified that the newly introduced statutory instrument on borehole fee is a one off payment that will enable Water Resources and Management Authority (WARMA) to regulate and monitor boreholes in the country.

    • Dora, that’s the reason we are asking you to take care of the narrative and beat your own drums for a change. It’s time to showcase all the projects around the country.

You’re now in charge of information so get the director of programming at ZNBC to feature a 60 minute program every week showcasing a different project.

Tell the nation what that project is all about, get all the facts and figures, how many people will be employed, it’s expected Gross National Product (GNP) contribution, etc.

Get some investigative journalist to spearhead it with different functionalities in all different sectors of the economy.

Get someone who understands markets to report daily on performances on LuSE and compare that to different indices. News like that gets people involved and you’re going…

    • Yet none of you Mushota and BR Mumba are ready to relocate back to Zambia to enjoy the “development” …someone is claiming development yet poverty levels are skyrocketing. Someone is claiming developing, yet no minister goes to UTH for medical services (UTH is in a deplorable state) Someone is claiming development, yet people with money are sending their kids abroad for university education ( UNZA and CBU are sorry sites) . What development is Dora talking about, Malls at every corner of the street???

    • UTH in deplorable state?? UTH now has a state of the art cancer section, just seoarated conjoined twins, deplorable??? Unlike Mwanwasa’s time where everyone went to UTH, we now have 5 district hospitals plus Levy hospital next to Chainama, referrals to UTH have dropped a whopping 85%!! Which country are you talking about??? The one in your sick head you imagine after reading watchdog?? Uli shilu???

    • @ 1:3 Manb, Walasa, you have spoken the truth, no spin, or regional blind affiliation apa peve!
Before P.F Cadres start frothing @ the mouth, accusing me of being UPND, & Bantu botatwe, im an NOT, coz statistics, & facts on the ground are there FOR ALL TO SEE.

    • @Ba Zambian Citizen, ati “ati state of art cancer section”? Then why are people heading to India for cancer treatment (Tata Memorial Hosptal in Mumbai)? Why did the government want to evacuate Kambwili to South Africa instead if we have “state of art hospitals” ? Anyways, people can see what they want to see, but can’t change the facts…

    • You will be surprised if another party came into power how this same Dora would change and start issuing disparaging remarks of the PF rule and how it mismanaged the economy by over borrowing just to build things for votes…..why is this statement valid? Dora was the number one shootist at PF and Sata and their flip flop approach to policy….what has changed now?? 🙁

  2. For the first time there was no mention of opposition this, opposition that. Maybe the impending impeachment is bringing civility to our leaders.

    • Sounds more of talk, there’s need for budgetary measures to align with these sentiments. Sweet talk ain’t real results. I like, though, the idea of thinking agriculture even though PF has lamentably failed this sector. Diversification towards this giant potential is welcome, only that the actual farmers are not involved in policy making.

  4. The delusional upnd fanatics will soon start saying you have buried your head in the sand. It is a national curse where people believe things that are not there, like their messiah from Namwala will bring heaven on earth?? Ba kolokombwa, keep working, Dora!!!

    • Looks like UPND is giving some people sleepless nights! Everywhere, every time, every topic even when UPND has said nothing, some PF people will always yell UPND!!! WHY?

    • They are the most unruly and uncouth lot Zambian politics has ever witnessed. If you were in Zambia you would understand better when you interact with these tribal, hateful, sick people who we interact with daily at work, restaurants, bars, trading places. The fact that 99% are all tonga/lozi/ kalubale makes it even worse. I wouldn’t lose sleep over upnd with hh in charge as this evil grouping will always fail to capture this nation. These fanatics will faithfully and violently defend even a plain lie as long as hh says it.

    • Kikikiki @ Zambian Citizen, you really sound like you have no peace with yourself.

I once learnt that “Hate” like racism, affects the hater more than the hated coz he is the one who carries (heavy load) the hate in his heart .

You can say that you don’t have hate, but why do you waste your time identifying, according to you, “tongas/lozis/kalubales/ in bars, restaurants and trading places? Find some inner peace my friend. Hate is not health. It affects you more than the people you hate.kikikikiki

  5. 200 hectares of land in Northern Province to benefit young people sounds great.

I need a piece of that so that I can come and farm it and settle down quietly on the land of my foreparents. I have no ambitions of getting old and grey in Europe. My future lies under African skies.

  6. This is a useless ministry. It just steals money from the state to produce propaganda. This and the religious ministry should go! We can’t afford cadre pacifying portfolios that contribute nothing to development

    • You seem to have run out of ideas. Always looking to change things. For Sata, it was merging ministries-a useless idea that had certain functions neglected months on end. The new constitution scraps deputy ministers yet you still want to experiment with ministries. You opposition supporters have no agenda for this country.

    • Who approved this ministry and religious affairs? Can a president just misspend our money because he is president?

  7. I think Tona could rule the country better than these clueless individual .Which development are you talking about . You have Matero township still operating Pit latrines at this age in history and you call it development .I would keep quiet if I was you because development has only happened were you live and to your bank account .

  9. Fascinating reading. For an educated woman, Miss Siliya is incredibly bereft of the country’s immediate concerns. Lawlessness, poor standards in education, nonfunctional healthcare system, corruption, unprofessional and corrupt civil service, vigilante Police Force, abuse of office by elected officials at all levels etc. Correct these and you’ll have begun the process of development. Otherwise it’s fantasy.

  11. Excuse me Dorah ,poor figures of 3% economic growth ,cholera epidemic ,runaway debt of $22bn and a nation of filthy street vendors.Chinese and South Africans now actually own Zambia.
That doesn’t sound like being on track to develop.

  12. “She stated that it is the first time the Republican President has introduced quarterly reports from ministries saying this is instilling a sense of responsibility in them.“

Because other Republican President will not trend that way.

  13. ECL/ PF remain a popular brand due to the many projects his government has undertaken in all areas in the country. This has never happened before in the history of Zambia, all the achievement did not come from no where its due for wise leadership of our dear President ECL

  14. ba Zambian citizen..

    “Lawlessness,vigilante Police Force
unprofessional and corrupt civil service, abuse of office by elected officials at all levels
    poverty levels are skyrocketing.
non-functional healthcare system. no minister goes to UTH for medical services
poor standards in education, people with money are sending their kids abroad for university education ( UNZA and CBU are sorry sites)”

    let’s hear your rebuttal please

  15. 16. @Zambian citizen… rants with no substance. Emotional tribal sentiments, unrealistic claims and not an aorta of compassion for the many that are struggling to eke out a living under this regime. You don’t judge a country by the few that have control of most of the resources and flout them at superficial shopping malls sprawling all over, but by how many fall within basic humane standards of a decent life. I would advise that you ought to debate constructively and objectively. I don’t know whether you are genuinely myopic or socially-politically primitive – or both. Your attacks on people blogging from abroad are also childish and uncalled for. They have a say and most do visit and stay in Zambia for long periods of time. They have relations, friends or attachments to the country…

    • …Muna the tonga: If you convince me that the employment rate has changed from Levy’s time to today significantly then I’ll believe you. If copper stopped being our biggest export earner in Mwanawasa’s time, i’ll kiss your feet. Otherwise it’s the same old rubbish you want to slap on ECL and I think you are a doomsaying tonga parrot. Try something new, my friend….

  17. @Zambian citizen… there you go again. Making an assumption that I am Tonga – which wouldn’t matter in any case. My sentiments above are vindicated. You are incapable of mature and civilised analysis.

    • Then why do you reply to my posts??? That rubbish you upnd/tonga supporters believe that people are suffering is only in your heads. It is designed to discredit the govt. so that people can think you are the God sent answer to Zambia’s problems. If hh was just that, why does he keep on losing??? He lost to Levy, RB, Sata and twice to ECL?? Zambians today know that it’s not government that will give them handouts but are working hard to make ends meet. You think hh being president will automatically transform their lives???
