Government commissions Dimbwe grid extension in Kalomo

Government has commissioned the 26.78 kilometer Dimbwe grid extension project in Kalomo district in Southern Province with a call on residents to improve their agricultural and trade industries.

Minister of Energy Matthew Nkhuwa said during commissioning that government wants to see the local people set up small scale enterprises for socio- economic development.

The Minister said the electrification of Dimbwe area is just one of the nine grid extension projects which government commenced in 2015.

He disclosed that over K5 million was spent on the project which has connected all the public facilities in the area and is elected to connect residents at a subsidised fee of K250.

He added that government has decided to subsidise connection fees to enable residents afford the minimal fee so that they can enjoy all the benefits that come with electricity.

And REA Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Musonda disclosed that the whole project was funded by government to ensure the area is connected to the national grid.

Mr. Musonda further said the project involved construction of close to 27 km 33kv overhead grid line from the existing 33kv power line along Choma-Kalomo road.

He said the Electrification Authority was targeting to electrify Dimbwe Mission, Katondo Primary School and Kalomo Primary School but has also benefitted other private facilities such as shops and communication towers.

The grid extension Infrastructure has since been handed over to Zesco.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by Chief Sipatunyana, Kalomo Central Member of Parliament Harry Kamboni and hundreds of villagers.
