Government says it has prioritized skills development for the country to attain the desired human capital development. Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Moses Mawere says that skills development key to empowering citizens and affording them an opportunity to participate meaningfully in the country’s various economic activities .
Mr Mawere says government is for this reason constructing more universities, colleges, trades training institutions and youth resource centers in various parts of the country.
The minister said this in a speech read on his behalf by Director for youth and Sports Collins Mulonda during the 2nd graduation ceremony of Chikupi Vocational and Skills training center in Kafue district, today.
The graduation ceremony was held under the theme “empowering the youth with skills to promote creativity innovation and job creation”.
The Minister explained that the theme is in line with the focus of the 7th National Development Plan which outlines government commitment towards the attainment of a middle income prosperous country by 2030.
Mr. Mawere noted that the commitment by Chikupi Vocational skills training Centre towards imparting sills to the youth is really commendable as it increases opportunities for Youth employment and job creation.
Speaking earlier, Kafue Member of Parliament Mirriam Chonya encouraged the graduates to be innovative and utilize the skills acquired to become their own bosses.
Mrs. Chonya said the labour force is currently saturated hence the need for the youth to come up with ways of employing themselves and eventually others too.
