Minister of Gender warns of stern action against women who shield their husbands and partners

Minister of Gender Elizabeth Phiri has warned of stern action against women who shield their husbands and partners in Sexual and Gender Based Violence Cases involving children.

Mrs. Phiri says it is saddening that some women opt to protect marriages at the expense of their children being defiled by their husbands.

She says most defilement cases involve family members but are only reported when a child is impregnated or infected with diseases.

Mrs. Phiri was reacting to the recent report of a 13 year old girl who was allegedly defiled and impregnated by her step father in Lusaka`s Mtendere township.

She said it is unlikely that a child could be undergoing emotional and physical trauma without being noticed by a mother who lives under the same roof.

Mrs Phiri said a child who is abused can easily be noticed especially by a Mother but some women tend to keep quiet for fear of losing their marriages.

And, Mrs. Phiri yesterday retrieved the girl from the abusive home and took her to the University Teaching Hospital -UTH- for treatment.

This is contained in statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Gender Media Liaison Officer Mwape Mwenya.

  1. What is your Ministry doing about the UNZA student who was murdered by the Police, a woman who was abused by a Mr. Chitambala, a female Police Officer and another female assaulted by Kaizer Zulu.
Not sure your Ministry is relevant if it can not help all these female victims.

    • About time! I don’t understand how a mother would shield a rapi$t from the law. In fact “tenda” before reporting the incident so the animal doesn’t do it again to another innocent child!

    • Imagine if it was the other way round. @Sharon shagging a step son, and husband know about it without telling anyone in fear of divorce, and being attacked the way she attacks HH.

  2. Mutinta has been shielding CHILDISH for years. UNDER FIVE is not fit for any office except a tribal one.

  3. Abuse is a two-way thing.Even women are in the habit of abusing step sons and daughters. This issue of abuse should not only be applicable to men.Women are the worst abusers but they are shielded from being prosecuted. No wonder the word ”gender abuse” does not apply to women.A man is greatly abused in the hands of women but no action is taken.
Abuse is not only physical but even emotional.A man will be abused emotionally through denial of conjugal rights. He ends up sleeping with other women other than his wife.A man will also be abused emotionally by a nagging woman who does not value the little that a man does.It is worse especially in this harsh economical environment. There is no respect especially when a man cannot provide for his home.

    • @Mbaluso(2); this is what am getting from your comment-you cheated on your first or second wife, married the mistress and brought your brood of brats into the new marriage. The step mom isn’t tolerating your little brats and is denying you sex and so you cheated on her too.
Now you are jobless and you expect her to feed your “John solye ubwali” self and your brood of brats. Makes me wonder who is being abused here!

    • @The Real Olivia Pope, these are the things I deal with by the virtue of my job as a psychologist.Your insinuations hold no water. You need to analyze my points before your expose your ignorance.Anyway, the language that I used was too difficult for you to understand.Do not insult people who are putting across points from what they experience in the field of their work. These are papers that we present to the masses for brainstorming.Intellectuals will discuss issues not tissues.
