Over 17, 000 girls have received the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in Chongwe, Kafue and Lusaka districts.
The Ministry of Health says the 17, 600 girls vaccinated so far is a work in progress towards the targeted number of 50, 000 girls.
The Ministry of Health has expressed happiness with the overwhelming response from the ongoing Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination program for 14 year old girls, saying it is anticipated that the number of girls accessing the vaccine is likely to increase.
Ministry of Health Assistant Director for Cancer Prevention Sharon Kapambwe, has since encouraged more girls to visit health facilities and obtain the vaccination before the close of the programme on July 20th, 2019.
“As opposed to numbers recorded during the Child Health Week, girls are being encouraged to visit health facilities and access the vaccination before July 20th, 2019,’’ she said.
Ms. Kapambwe has further encouraged those who missed the vaccination programme in schools to visit any health facility and receive the vaccine.
The vaccination program which is using a school-based strategy is targeting 14 year old girls who are expected to access the vaccine from health centres and through community based strategies.
The HPV vaccine which was introduced last year on a pilot basis in Chongwe, Kafue and Lusaka districts, before it can be rolled out to the rest of the country.

Zambia’s health ministry is supposed to due it’s due diligence before any Zambian receives this vaccine.
but knowing how lazy and inept these guys are, they just smile and go ahead vaccinating the population to be seen as doing something. the onus is on the Zambian government to research this drug prior to allowing it to be consumed by our young girls.
even lt reporter would have done us a service by finding out what sort of medication is contained in this vaccine so that we can do our own research, but that’d be asking too much from these guys. too quick to push out a story with no content. they don’t have the common sense to go behind the headline story and publish informed pieces
some vaccines react very aggressively against certain pre-existing ailments and illnesses as well,…
…. combining certain medications (what’s introduced in to body reacting with medications one is on) do in fact trigger very severe health risks.
as well, it’s very important to know who’s behind the donation, and even ask why and where else has this particular vaccine been tried, and mice and chimps in the lab isn’t good enough. don’t want your population to be the guinea pig.
there’s no pharmaceutical company in the world that would give out drugs for free. a lot of work goes into developing a drug, it’s a very long process and I am not even talking about the regulations
