REPUBLICAN President His Excellency Dr Edgar Lungu has declared October 25th, the day after Zambia’s Independence Day, a public holiday.
REPUBLICAN President His Excellency Dr Edgar Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says the abuse of Social Media by some Zambians if left unchecked might plunge the nation into chaos.

The President has asked the church to counsel Zambians not to abuse Social Media.

He has further called on the police and Zambia Information and Technology Authority -ZICTA to ensure that social media abusers are brought to book.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has emphasized that Monday is not a public holiday, contrary to Social Media reports.

And the President has counseled Zambian politicians to develop the culture of accepting election results as is the case in other African countries.

President Lungu says prolonged unjustifiable disputes over election results derail economic development.

Commenting on the just ended general elections in Botswana after his early morning jog at State Lodge today, President Lungu said Zambians must learn from other countries where elections are held peacefully, and politicians concede defeat.

He regretted that Zambia is compromising its record as one of the pioneers of peaceful elections.

And President Lungu reiterated his call for the immediate lifting of economic sanctions on Zimbabwe.

He said the move will enable Zimbabwe to rekindle its economic status.

    • It is weekend, why is Ba dgar not taking a break and enjoy his wife’s company? Why is on LT, Watch-1mbwa and other social media? Ba Edgar get a life, get out of social media, you risk watching ponho from some of your ministers who do nothing but Social-media.

    • Just close the thing until 2021, why should people go to work when all their computers have never worked the october since there is no electricity?
Only schools should open, not other government institutions. Who need ministry of Tourism, Religion, Agriculture, Infrastructure, Social services, etc. Just Close the shiit and wait for new government.. its just 2 years people. People can use a 2 years holiday for real.

    • Edgar Lungu knows the e-mail address of every blogger on this site. It’s one if his favourite pastimes reading wht social media is reporting.

    • While Zambian Leaders are busy with pet issues like this one, Tanzania’s Magufuli is buying and commissioning Boeing Dreamliner 787, and bosting off the many changes he has brought to his country since coming to power.
His country men and women are seeing the results and acknowledge it and talk of him with pride as a new generation leader of Africa, can we say the same for our leaders???

    • When you have a clown masquerading as a President then everything becomes a Joke…..Of out 13 million Zambiansquare is this the man we honestly came up with as a President smh….

  2. Acceptance of election results is directly related to how elections are conducted. When you have people of questionable character conducting the elections and when there is interference from the political party elements, lacking transparency, etc, losers would find it difficult to accept the results. Simple.

  3. These early morning joggings are slowly becoming press conferences for Lungu. The entire president holding a press conference to tell the nation that monday is not a holiday and election results in Botswana!!!. No mention of the numerous problems faced by zambians or the minister of finance outcomes of the talks he had with IMF. Useless man.

  4. There is too much power vested in the Presidency. Mwe Bantu, start there with ilyashi lya constitutional amendment. That much power in the hands of the clueless, let alone the power hungry intelligent has bankrupted And will continue to harm the country. More than twice over.

  5. Edgar, you must also accept that in the Court of our Independent minds as Zambians we’ve elected you twice to office of President so you’re not eligible to contest in 2021. So parte after parte ends in August 2021,Endesha Chapwa Longa. If you insist, we’ve every right to reject the results of that election because you can only win through crookery

  6. Everyday is a holiday in Zambia, anyway! How do people work without electricity? This government has just turned the country into one big village!

  7. “…President Edgar Lungu says the abuse of Social Media by some Zambians if left unchecked might plunge the nation into chaos….”

The “threat” of “chaos in the nation” is used by politicians as a cover for dictatorship.
Provide correct news, hold regular press conferences etc to provide citizens with correct news and answers to their questions, then fake news will die.
By correct news we dont mean stories about which roads you have build, or stories that support your election campaigns. We are modern citizens and we want news of our choice not what you want us to hear, Mr President!

    • I can’t remember who said “there will be chaos if the constitutional court rules against me..”. Maybe this is the person causing chaos?

  8. There is no abuse if you plan things well. This idea that you can wake up and declare a holiday is what will result in abuse of due process. How do you transfer incompetence that seamlessly? Awe mwe! Bayanu pali ma planned calendar done in advance BEFORE the year starts. You are just scapegoating so that you start intimidating your cyber citizens! Awe shuwa!

  9. Why doesnt Trump or Angela Merkel complain of fake news on Facebook and send their ministers like Lusambo to go and force their equivalent to ZICTA to start pursuing those who post fake news on social media in their respective countries? Why is our government so insecure with social media unverified stories that most sobber Zambians don’t believe until verified? Next time you want to declare a holiday, do it before the year calendars are not printed so that speculation on Facebook can not stand any chance. Otherwise please your excellency, leave that Facebook topic to our own self confessed bootlicking Honorable Lusambo to pursue so that he gets embarrassed alone when he mistakenly drags a Chainama mental patient to court for fake news and the accused walks free after producing Chainama…

  10. A whole presidency talking about social media when the country faces very serious challenges. Is this the leader you want in 2021? Very rich coming from him when we know he abuses the law and rules. We even know that he watches blue movies on internet so what is he saying.

  11. No sir the church needs to counsel you on your leadership kwasila. No zambian is stupid not to know that until you sir issues an official statement regarding a holiday declaration, no rumor or gossip will be taken at face value.

  12. Good observation on Botswana. In Zambia even choosing a Chief is increasingly becoming hard. Why? Your Excellency, recognise Chiefdoms that manage their transitions smoothly.

  13. Childish!!!! Social media is not an issue at all. What is an issue is to be exposed on social media doing the wrong things. Just do the right things and social media will have nothing to do with you. What are we hiding kanshi?????
    Disaster!!!!

  14. Only those who have done wrongs are afraid of Social Media! PF should treat Social media as a useful tool to gauge the mood of the nation and adjust accordingly! Resorting to threats will only breed more resentment against PF! The beauty about technology is that it has left dictators exposed! Talk to the people you claim to lead! Surely no meaningful press conference since 2011 is very abnormal! Good leaders create platforms like Press Conferences where their people are free to ask their leader many Pressing questions about the direction of their country? What kind of leadership is that? Right now, Zambia is like a directionless goat in the wilderness! PF will be shooting itself in the foot by trying to police Cyberspace after closing political space through the POA! Don’t take God’s…

  15. Don’t take God’s people for granted! Muzzle not the masses! Doing that is what leades to insults on Social media! Remember Newton’s Third Law of Motion – Action is equal to Reaction! Do good to all and you receive a lot of good back! If you practice partiality in justice, expect no good!

  16. Certain political party is associated with satanism hence the reason we see falsehoods spreading, gross insults and insolence rampant among its supporters. If you cant get this as enough evidence, you are are already initiated too .

  17. Bosses social media is doing the job your law enforcement agencies as well as your intelligence have failed to do.

  18. “…..Meanwhile, President Lungu has emphasized that Monday is not a public holiday, contrary to Social Media reports…”

HH told you , you Zambia can’t afford another holiday, but lungu was hoping the IMF would not notice with the PF rats on LT singing about hangovers……useless cockrachers

  19. “…..Meanwhile, President Lungu has emphasized that Monday is not a public holiday, contrary to Social Media reports…”

HH told you , you Zambia can’t afford another holiday, but lungu was hoping the IMF would not notice with the PF rats on LT singing about hangovers……useless rats….

  20. Comment:Mr president at least we were expecting you to talk about load shedding not ifyo naimwe, zesco is slowly killing us and 2021 is just around the corner if you have forgotten

  21. It is not a matter if Monday is a bank holiday or not. What are holidays in some countries. Is independence day and also the end of slavery emancipation day.Yes.The ending of the white man’s meddling in black government. Is openly celebrated in many countries.”Free at last thank god we are free at last”.Peter Carlos Hinds.

  22. Parte after parte after parte after parte. How I would have loved the USA administration to take keen interest in corruption cases involving PEPs and slap such people with sanctions until they are duly cleared in competent courts of law.

  23. POINT OF CORRECTION: Your comments are with cheap politics and hatred, you’re the same people who are misinforming the nation through social media. The President has many eyes and ears,if he mentioned of the social media, then that is a fact. We should not buy the lies through this animal so called social media.. please stop attacking the Head of State, it is not in order, by wasting your energy commenting bad on the leadership. One thing you should know is that, President Edgar Lungu is a listening and a very humble God given leader who at all cost with his cabinet are working so hard to improve the welfare of this country Zambia. Stop the hate and abusive comments, social media has robbed the mindset of innocents Zambians and trying to paint a bad picture to the international community…

  24. People you have nothing good, neither do you appreciate what the Government of today has done for you. The fact is, even if His Excellency Dr Edgar Changwa Lungu where to bring the heavens on earth you will still not appreciate him. Mwalitemwa imiponto as if you’ve ruled anything before when you fail to even rule your own home. Learn to appreciate. And whether you like it or not, come rain, come sunshine He (Our God) shall do it again in 2021. The Government of today was choosen by our living mighty GOD, therefore it shall not be shaken by any scopion (satan).
