A massive animal Park is underway in Lusaka in line with government’s effort to expand the spectrum of tourism attractions in the city and increase revenue base.
The Park to be managed by the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) will be located in the de-gazetted forest reserves NO. 26 and 55 which have since been fenced off for animal sanctuary.
Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Public Relations Officer Bwalya Nondo announced the development to ZANIS in Lusaka.
Mr. Nondo said the multi-faceted Park will have amenities such as a lodge, restaurant and traversing roads among others.
He said the Park is expected to be stocked with a representation of animals found in Zambia’s National Parks.
Mr. Nondo said the Park will be developed partly through the K23 billion allocated for re-capitalization to ZAWA by government through the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural resources.
Out-going Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Permanent Secretaries Dr Eustern Mambwe has described the envisaged Park as a gem to tourism development.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mambwe has commended employees in the Ministry for their hard work and focus aimed at ensuring that their Ministry contributes more to the economic development of the country.
Dr Mambwe urged workers to continue putting in their best in order to propel Zambia’s economic growth through tourism.
He made the remarks when he addressed employees to bid farewell to them.
Dr Mambwe has been transferred to the Ministry of Communication and Transport in the same capacity.
And in a vote of thanks workers’ representative Victor Chalabesa described Dr Mambwe as a man of vision who had transformed the Ministry within a short stint of his stay at the helm of the ministry.

This is a good idea. Right on!!!!
This is great..This will also be a good facility to educate game eaters on the importance of conservation.
We need more thinking Leaders. Let us keep Sata away and usher in another foward thinking govt. Zambia would be a great nation
The idea is good but people have to sensitized on the importance of game. The only thing that comes in mind when many people see game is killing it for meat. Poachers are already spending sleepless nights to find ways of killing the animals. Zambia is still along way in game ranching which is always undertaken by foreigners.
This is an excellent policy. It will help even sustain threatened species. We can open other parks through out the country e.g. CB and will afford Zambians that have never seen their animals in their own land due to unfordable costs of going to game reserves.
This is very good for the development of the country and bring tourism closer to the people most of which can not manage to go to the game parks which are far depending on where they are.
My question is where is this place located people dont know this no. 26 and 55 gazetted forest reserves? please LT fill us in on this one. Those who have been to Kenya and Nairobi will realise the park there is doing fine for the less privaleged in society to visit and see the animals they have never seen but they are in their own country.
Bravo Benechishi!!!!!!
HK always a fool
Anonymous pliz do not insult just express your opinion otherwise we shall not be able to distinguish a fool between yourself and HK.
It is easy to tell.
Its impossible to bring in animals from other habitats and expect them to survive, these pipo they think animals are like beings that can easily adapted in any environment, how can you stork a park like a grocery, animals have corridor s and parches, places were they live and for there instinct survival are adapted to that particular place, please you cant shift animals, you might as well take elephants from africa to europe, its a question of habitat places,na pa pata.
#10, Once upon a time animals roamed all the present human settlements. All we need is to recreate the natural habitats for them by allowing trees to regrow, the Savannah will eventually blend with the animals and the animals will blend with the environment. It is our best chance to preserve our game. We should also educate our people on the dangers of killing snakes and other animals. Leaving them alone will make them not to harm us and all of us win. We can preserve what God blessed us with for the future.
Sounds really like a plan….
#6, fire pon Rome! Change yu name! We nuh want no Babylon Vatican pope featuring here. Bombohclaat!
I have been challenged by one American businessman I know who supports nature and animals. He donates to preservation of birds, animals and the environment. He and his colleagues support the city by planting and developing new parks or buy land that is preserved for nature. Zambian business houses can supplement govt by coming up with these projects. We are blessed with so much and we can transform our country in every area be it agriculture, mining, tourism, parks, lakes, swamps and rivers and much more. Good job guys.
Good idea! Why not build better roads to our national parks, train game rangers to reduce poaching, develop infrastrature in national parks, etc.Anyway, good work new deal….
Too much talking and less action.let’s see it come up and we can talk.
#7 please desist from insulting others. Right or wrong, those are his/her opinions.
#10 there are already African elephants and other animals in Europe and America. I stand to be corrected. And are you sure ZAWA does not have officers who are educated enough not to know what you are saying? Please, look at issues with an analytic view.
#14 please keep it up, you are an inspiration. If only all of us can strive to commend the would-be investor into Zambia, our country would be a better place to live in. You are a truly Zambian.
They are bringing game meat nearer.I remember a few years ago when when some poachers fearlessly killed some rhinos right in the Vic falls game management area.
This is a commendable plan. However, ZAWA should have alert and well trained no nonsense scouts otherwise the animals will be wiped out in no time. After all most of the poachers are “hired guns”. The real poachers a foreigners and big shots in Lusaka.
(b) Have Zambians realised that the Ministry of Tourism exists only in three provinces, namely Lusaka, Eastern and Southern? The talk about developing the tourism industry is a sham. We will never reach the levels of Kenyan, Egyptian and South African tourism industry if we do things in such a lopsided manner of favouring certain areas as was the case during the UNIP era.
