Police say they shot dead two suspected criminals

Police in Lusaka have shot dead two suspected criminals while two others are on the run.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the suspects were shot at after they attempted to run away from the police.

“Police on 5th January 2022 received information that they were four suspected criminals driving a Nissan Tiida registration number AIC 6983 silver in colour.Police patrol vehicles who were in the field were alerted and rushed to the scene. Upon realizing the presence of the police the suspects took off prompting the officers to give a chase,” Mr Hamoonga stated.

He stated that when the suspects noticed that they were being trailed, they immediately sped off with the view to escape.

“They later on abandoned the vehicle and started running away. It was at this point that the officers fired warning shots and in the process two were maimed and the other two manage to escape. However the two who were shot at were rushed to the hospital and upon arrival they were pronounced dead.

“Police officers searched the vehicle they found a new pair of number plates bearing registration number BAC 4401 and unknown instrument which is believed to be the one they use to open the vehicles hidden at the back. The two suspects who manage to ran away went away with unknown type of firearm,” Mr Hamoonga stated.

He stated that investigations have so far revealed that the same Nissan Tilda vehicle was hired from a named care hire company and was being used by the suspected criminals.

Mr Hamoonga stated that police are investigating the matter.

  1. A suspect is not convicted killing a suspect is a crime people must be arrested and brought to the court of law.
You don’t go on killing the innocent people and call them criminals, it is only in Zambia where suspects are killed with out being brought to courts of law.

  2. It’s better to shoot them in the legs, apprehend and interrogate them for further information.

  3. The car hire company should hv details of the people who hired their asset. Should be a fairly easy one to crack for the police. The problem arises whn people carry false identity documents.

  4. How were they threats who deserved to die if they were running away or is it a case of licensed to kill?

  5. Most likely these guys were arrested and told to run and they got shot. The Zambian Police have a habit of shooting suspects. This case must be investigated. Barbaric policing should be a thing of the past.

  6. The Zambia Police public relations unit leaves much to be desired. It is very stressful reading statements such as this one from the Police.

“Police on 5th January 2022 received information that they were four suspected criminals driving a Nissan Tiida…”

“Upon realizing the presence of the police the suspects took off prompting the officers to give a chase.”

“…when the suspects noticed that they were being trailed, they immediately sped off with the view to escape.”

“Police officers searched the vehicle they found a new pair of number plates bearing registration number BAC 4401 and unknown instrument which is believed to be the one they use to open the vehicles hidden at the back.”

My school leaver daughter can express herself in much better English than this.

  7. No evidence that they were criminals.
Just Running away from police does not
    Make them criminals.

  8. Here in the USA the police would be called racist, then there would be riots, looting of local shops and burning of buildings. So police around the world face the same problems. They are not your enemies but are here to protect and serve the citizens.

  9. No pride can be derived from shooting people down – criminal or not! The very fact you have to resort to extreme destructive measures to tame people, suggests there are failures in your management of crime. Sad indeed.

    #plant a tree now please!

  10. Don’t make zambia like the west where criminals don’t fear the police…….

And shooting and stabbings are the order of the day………..

If the police ask you to stop, you stop…….

Why would you run away if you are not a criminal………?

Those insinuating human rights have not been touched by criminals……….

Criminals can be brutal , rapping and murdering……..

  11. Police are supposed to apprehend suspected criminals not shoot them. Warning shots cannot kill someone. Please spare us this drama.
