Minister of Transport and Communications Geoffrey Lungwangwa says Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata’s visit to Western Province demonstrates politics of distortion and drama, which no-one deserves.
Professor Lungwangwa, who is also Nalikwanda member of Parliament, said Zambians need and deserve politics based on the truth.
Prof. Lungwangwa joins other stakeholders, including parliamentarians and civil society organisations, who have taken a swipe at Mr Sata for creating an impression that Western Province is behind his candidature.
“The people of Western Province are smart and able to see clearly that Mr Sata cannot take development there within 90 days. That is drama,” he said.
Prof Lungwangwa was reacting to remarks made by Mr Sata, who visited Western Province last week.
He said the type of politics Mr Sata has continued to practise cannot build the nation.
Prof Lungwangwa said President Banda has taken massive development to the province.
Government recently released K213 billion for the construction of Lukulu, Mwandi, Nakanya, Mayukwayukwa and Sikongo, Libonda, Nangweshi, Mitete and Nalwei high schools in all the districts in Western Province.
Prof Lungwangwa said Government has also constructed basic schools in Western Province at a cost of K98 billion.
In addition, 270 classrooms at the basic school level have been constructed.
Government released another K2 billion for the construction of Shang’ombo Hospital, 27 Basic Schools, K706 billion for the construction of Senanga-Sesheke road and a bridge on the Zambezi River while K1.3 trillion will be spent on the Mongu-Kalabo to Sikongo via Angola and Katunda-Lukulu road.
Prof. Lungwangwa said with all this development in the province, Mr Sata cannot stand in front of the people and make a statement that there is no development in the province and that he will take development there within 90 days if voted into office.
He said the people of Western Province are able to see through Mr Sata’s statements and make judgment on his politics of drama, which he is famous for.
Prof. Lungwangwa said instead, Mr Sata should acknowledge the development in Western province.
Prof. Lungwangwa said Mr Sata should test his popularity in other parts of Western Province where he has not been. There are 17 constituencies in the province.
He said MMD is intact and strong in all the 17 constituencies in Western Province.

Mwebantu twapapata lekeni Sata atushepo. Why are you scared of him if he is not a factor? Just leave my President alone. Namuya uno mwaka.
Yes lozi are smart. They will vote to punish RB. They know HH can not win.
A vote for RB = more amputations in BRE.
continue taking Sata’s re-entry to Western province lightly. By the time you MMD wake up Sata will be in state house.
Why are you panicking? Don’t mislead people, just wait for elections to come and see that Western Province is a PF stronghold.
Continue mourning over spiled milk.
One wonders, why did you shoot, kill and arrest lozis if you wanted their votes?
VOTE SATA AND PF COME 2011.
Beware of small tribal UPND which just split votes.
Lungwangwa, why are you worried about Sata if he is not a factor?
You have neglected your own people to the extent that they were being killed by RB and in approval you kept quiet. Now that the people are no longer interested in your many degrees, they’d rather have that ‘illiterate’ man who seems to care about their plight, you are throwing tantrums? Ba MMD why is it that whenever you open your mouth, even in sleep, your cry out Sata!!!! Indeed he is your biggest nightmare. Dont be fooled by the so called development you are taking to WP. For your own info, Kaunda built the road from Mansa to Kashikishi between 1988 and 1990. That was just before elections BUT HE LOST. Ask UNIP. So you are just wasting that money in WP, you will still lose!!! I fell for you, useless prophesor!
Tribal politics at its best!!!! from the minister!!!
balungwangwa nothing good will come out of your mouth for some of us to hear.but boy nawamba ukunsebanya
It quite clear to me that SATA’s visit to western province will kill a lot of people especially those who eat and drink with RB. If the visit was meaningless why waste your time to talk about it? please just admit like the way Miyanda did.Whether you like it or not people are able to see the failures and killing of RB and MMD.Do not be cheated western province are truly behind SATA. This time around SATA has a formula and set and day dream. You can build a building but you failing to pay Teachers their dues who do think will be in those building of yours?By the way,the development you are talking about whose money are you using? its tax payer’s money so there is no point for you fool yourself.
Well said Papa K, they think we are foooools we cant read beyond their noise…. it is our money we should even cite them for negligence of duty.. thats their responsibility not ukulatushinga butter..
oops, sorry Lungwangwa, the last sentence in #6 above should read ‘I feel’ not ‘i fell”
Sata goes to Western province and huge numbers attend his rallies, you say Lozis are ‘smart’. RB goes to same Western province and only a handful attend his rally, you say Lozis are behind RB!!!
Jehova God Almighty help us. The complicated Loziz are now smart, wonder what else they are! I have a hundred and one Lozi friendz who are very far from being complicated or smart.
Bo Lungwangwa with all your degrees and money !is this a statement we can get from you? maybe you earned your degrees thru umwembeshi? your people were shot at,. arrested, amputed you never opened your urgly mouth to defend them you went ahead to drink their blood with RB. mind you the shed blood is still crying out… you MMD you have blood on your shoulders and God shall require it ,, the time of reckoning has come …woe unto the gvt that kills its citizens and rejoices…….the wrath of God is on the entire MMD leadership
Is tribal politics the best we can do in Zambia. Why don’t you try CLAN POLITICS?[-( Zambia is being messed up by these current politicians that can never think beyond tribe! Perhaps we must revert to Chiefdoms if NATIONAL POLITICS is beyond our scope.
LUNGWANGWA A LEARNED MAN. YOU LOSE NOTHING. YOU CAN STILL GO BACK AND TEACH AT UNZA. YOU HAVE VERY GOOD CREDENTIALS. SATA AND KAPONYAS DONT UNDERSTAND YOUR LANGUAGE, I PITY THEM. STREET VENDORS WHICH CHARACTERISE EVERY DISTRICT LINED UP THE ROADS IN SENANGA AND MONGU. VOTE WISELY AND SMASH THE SNAKE TO THE GROUND FOR THE LAST TIME. VOTE RB. HE HAS PROVED HIS WORTHY.
Can someone who attended the rally in western province en light us on what really transpired. Suddenly all Lozi politicians aligned to MMD are issuing statements.
we have more than 72 tribes in Zambia and nine provinces, I’ am I the only one getting tired of this
bo sata is not a factor we all know ..its just time ..we shall retire him honorably..we shall honour him posthumously as the president Zambia never had !!hahaha
#17 I see your point. Even in Western province, there are other ethnic groups besides Lozis and that is why it might be counter-productive for a politician to promise to restore the BA agreement if elected into power as their is a sizeable proportion of voters in the province who are against it.
Lozis are not a tribe. They are a nation. Silozi is a national language in Barotseland. The Totela, Muenyi, Shanjo, Subiya, Luyi, Nyengo are some of the 24 languages that used to be spoken in Barotseland. Mbunda is still spoken. As for the Mbunda ask yourself why Lubosi Lewanika was know as Lewanika la mafuci or the uniter! Other than the two Nkoya chieftainships in Kaoma I do not know of anyone one in Barotseland will find it offensive to be called Lozi. Read the history of Barotseland and you will understand what Iam talking about. Lungwangwa, Mabenga, Kabika, Kaingu, Musokotwane are all Lozi Ministers. At the micro level, they are Kwangwa, Subiya, Luyi etc but they dont speak these languages. So Chimunya stop hallucintaing about other ethnicities in W/Province!
Pathetic so-called professor. Why can’t he say something about the killings and maiming of innocent Lozis. You blood sucker!
Chimunya, good point. I can’t claim to understand BRE, let alone its implications, but surely what about the other tribes in WP? As for the Prof. I venture it is rather misguided on his part to focus on Mr. Sata rather than explain to his constituents what development he has and is delivering to them. I think that is what the people want to hear. That said he is right to sound the alarm bells on the cheap politicking that a university (I exaggerate somewhat) will be built within 90 days. And PF are going to do this across the entire country. It takes at least one year from conception to award of contract for a $10m construction project.
It is interesting that since Sata’s rallies in the Western Province or Barotseland we are hearing of so many descriptions of the character of the Lozi ! They are smart, smile but do something else( deceiptive? ) , attended rallies out of curiosity etc etc. Not to be outdone Katele also says the people of Luapula are smart. Well, well, why are we being fed all this now ? Is there really anything intrinsically different among the tribes of Zambia ? Hope we are not veering towards tribal politics.
some mps are really foolish when his own people where killed kept quite now sata goes there he sense threated what has stolen he fast to speak that lozi are smart how can they be smart and suport who kills them. For me WP if they will support mmd i will know that are not smart but dull and short sightened.\:d/
Professor Lungwangwa, I expected you to go and explain to the people all these development projects you are talking about. Mind you common men in villages can not even read the newspapers you are speaking through. If Mr.Sata tells them what he wants to do, better you tell them what you have done and doing. He has done nothing wrong to market himself, after all you have something to point at. So go explain to voters or else you lose your votes. This year’s election is not a joking matter.
# 21 Apamwamba. Sorry there is nothing good about Chimunya’s so called point. You are as ignorant as he is. The people you refer to as Lozis are an almagamation of 24 ethnicities. At the micro level Professor Lungwangwa is a Kwanga. Most likely MMD Chairman Mabenga from Mulobezi is a Subiya, Musokotwane is probably a Totela, the MPs from Senanga are most likely Luyi’s. The MMD MP in Mongu is Mbunda. Other than the two minority Nkoya chieftainships in Kaoma I am at pains to work out which ‘other tribes’ you are talking about. By the way Silozi is the Barotse National language. It is the language of the 24 ethnicities in Western Province. The Lozis are not a tribe. They are a compound of 24 ethnicities.
Western Province will never align with a snake mwe bantu. Who can stay in his house and miss free comedy from the king of comedy and drama, next only to Bikiloni and diffikoti? Pipo went to watch comedy not to listen to a presidential candidate. That man is not presidential material. That’s why FTJ could only appoint him Minister without anything (portifolio). He is actually nothing.
The malozi malozi what is very much special there now all polititians are fighting for barotseland, no news from other provinces. Is is it true that malozi are smart and complicated
Nightmare on Manda hill road, don’t close your eyes , you will see SATA!!
It doesnt mean that when you attend the rally then you vote for that person ohhhh pls dont be fooled some where just going there to see how the cobra looks like oooops ba sata.only God knows who is the good leader for our mother Zambia
